This is actually heartbreaking. The track eluding guidance initially likely put in some false hope of a near miss “miracle”

I wonder if Melissa had a slight rise in pressure during the eyewall meld, and is now steady state or slightly intensifying again. Almost certainly not weakening at the moment.

the weather doesn’t look that bad there from the live cams I’ve seen

gusts only in the 50’s.  they will be able to handle this

Yeah now they are handling it but once whomever gets into the eastern eye wall it’s not going to pretty. Don’t downplay a most likely disaster unfortunately for some with winds at 175 and gusts over 200. Also many have said a lot of the population lives way above sea level.

Per Twitter, he settled on a concrete masonry building up on a hill. Def safe from surge i'm sure, but will be battling the wind. There's a chance he might catch the 2nd strongest Hurricane landfall ever. Think about that for a second. Unreal.

This is the shelter Josh chose. It’s a solid concrete hotel. I remember worrying about him with Dorian and Haiyan but he always pulls through. He might be stuck on the island for awhile but he’s prepared as always. I wish he still posted here.

It looks like the NE portion of the eye wall is almost on shore. Landfall seems likely in the 3-4 hours.
