Thing is the water will come up very rapidly as the eye comes ashore, like a slowed down tsunami. And gigantic waves on top. I guess it’s a positive in this case that the elevation rises quickly away from the water.

Last dropsondes suggests Melissa has peaked/leveled off with the 895 mb 7 kt. Not going to matter much at this point though as far as Jamaica goes. This is basically going to be landfall intensity.

Here is a fantastic loop of the radar showing this morning's eyewall merger. You can see the two bands merge, followed by the new single eyewall blow up with red. This is also the point in which the satellite blew up with intense lightning.
