Unfortunately it is coming in at peak strength and with some forward speed meaning that eastern side will maximize wind gusts. Dire situation in Jamaica. Coming in daylight, maybe Josh can get the stadium captured. This is going to be one of the strongest hurricane landfalls in history.

If I ever had that chance I would have my drone for the eye to punch above any low clouds to get the stadium.

What has always fascinated me about hurricanes is the combination of unbelievable strength and fragility. This one was sure to be devastating when land falling but on several occasions I thought it was definitely going to at least temporarily weaken slightly  and instead several times it has actually just deepened. The long loop of this hurricane is a meandering buzzsaw.

we have seen many time sin the past decade where hurricanes did not weaken on approach to land harvey and michael for example..
Jamaica doesn't really have much of a shallow shelf. Heat content is high at depth not far from the shore. A positive is that this mitigates surge to the harbors and bays. Still probably looking at 13 to 15 ft somewhere where the SE eyewall comes ashore.

Can someone please explain what that graphic is showing?

Thanks.

That image is showing the aircraft flying and taking measurements. The pressure is extrapolated to the surface from that flight level at that exact location, so not directly measured. But still 893mb is extremely deep and rare.
