Strong Nor'Easter/Hybrid Storm Late September 2026

Why is this being referred to as a "hybrid" system, when it is clearly a cold core system, with clearly defined  warm, and cold fronts? The low center just includes is just occluded.

It's not subtropical, but it is warm core according to some of the data.

Hello from Eastern N.C. I lived in Bronxville, NY from 1951-53 until my father returned to Washington, D.C. where he grew up. As a youngster my parents would send me off for a few weeks every summer to Grandma's house in Bronxville. The area was beautiful, I remember riding my tricycle along the brick sidewalks. I'd also walk down to the station to buy penny gum or candy from the little vending machines and watch the trains. I guess this is where I got my love for trains. Never heard of City Island before, it looks like a great place. Probably get some decent snow in winter unlike my current home (except for the 14" whopper last winter which blew me away after 20 years here without ever seeing more than 3".) Hope all is well at your end, and wishing you a fun winter.

city island has a coastal vibe, with fishing boats and sea food joints. i sometimes go out on fishing boats there. it is close to orchard beach, which is one of the "killing fields" in north america, where lots of bodies have been found, though it differs in that most of them appear to be mob hits as opposed to serial killings in places like the texas killing fields or gilgo beach. one famous incident had two cops witness a couple guys walk out of the woods covered in blood, but did not think this was of any importance. there was, of course, a body found......

getting a lot of heat from my daughter who wanted to go out tonight and frankly, its just a rainy evening here...though most of the time her friends go to asbury which is probably not the place to be at 2 am closing a bar with a coastal cranking.....

I currently live in City Island. It's a real nice place. I can let my 2 boys 12 and 13 go out themselves without any concern. People are nice. Nice place to live

LaGuardia for now is doing much better than 24 hours ago, when avg delays were nearly 3 hrs, as the avg delay now is <15 minutes.

JFK avg delay is 50 minutes.

I’m sure lots of flights were cancelled ahead of the storm, so no surprise delays aren’t worse with less traffic into/out of the airport.

i love it there, but parking is tough, so i now go to new rochelle when i fish the long island sound boats, they have parking.

We didnt cancel 1 flight. Until 4pm, there were no ATC delays at all. Simply wasnt weather to call for it.

 

Saturday schedule is also much reduced at LGA. They can operate on one runway easily. JFK is going 7 days a week

Glen Island Casino is nice to fish at. About  miles away. Way too many rocks to get stuck on here

Thanks. Does that mean tomorrow PM could return to big delays at LGA like yesterday? I’m asking because my nephew has a 4PM flight leaving from there.

Pretty sure we got a 50mph gust just now here in West Babylon. Sounded like a truck was coming down my side street. Rain has been mostly minimal here. Guessing worst of that will be after 2 or 3am looking at radar.
