Kind of odd: Ulster Cty now has highest # and % of outages in NY with 11k/11%. Is this accurate? Neighboring counties are much lower.
 

Suffolk is at 9k/1.4%.

* WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
 
* WHERE...In Connecticut, Northern New London, Southern Middlesex,
  and Southern New London Counties. In New York, Northeast Suffolk,
  Northern Nassau, Northwest Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Southern
  Nassau, and Southwest Suffolk Counties.
 
* WHEN...Until noon EDT Sunday.
 
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
  Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult,
  especially for high profile vehicles.
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
 
People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around
or damaged by the wind.
 
Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and

If you’re talking about 30 (White Horse Pike) most of that portion of the road is at sea level. It floods there during astronomically high tides. It used to be a great crabbing spot. Check out the High Point Pub in Absecon. Great wings, calzones and other food. It looks like a bar from the outside but there’s a large dining room in the back. And Ghilchrest for breakfast. Best blueberry pancakes you’ll have in your life.

Euro at 12z still likes the overnight tonight for the strongest winds as the system maxes out for us and starts the hard left turn. 70knts over a good chunk of LI and CT shoreline at 925mb

Our friendly Nor'easter is in the process of "transitioning" to a hybrid cyclone with "diabatic" energy conversion capability.  

The convection near the center is indicative of energy conversion through ocean surface latent heat flux.

Still not a hurricane, but fronts are mostly ditched, and we're left with a "secluded" area of warm air near center beneath a lowered/cold tropopause, so we're going into the subtropical cyclone business.

Could this get a name?  Sure, why not?

Not that I disagree with anything from his X post but I highly doubt they give this a name at this point.  They may classify it in post season analysis.  They might have given it a name at this point in time IF they had had made mention of it in the TWO over the last few days.

My opinion: At least in post season analysis should be labeled as a Sub-Tropical cyclone.  Just my 2 cents.

If I lived along the coast, especially the NJ coast I'd fasten my seatbelts.  Could be a bumpy night.  Long Island will be no picnic either but water could get a big push toward the Jersey coast overnight.

Back on Tuesday, the NWS was calling this a nuisance storm. They're not going to name anything.

Im not far from you in Lyndhurst, and the winds have really picked up over the last 30 mins or so, despite there being no rain.

If there is a saving grace here so far today it is that winds have been more northerly across the area than anything else.  That has kept for the most part water from piling in along the coast (especially NJ) any further than it has already.   That may change some overnight as the storm turns left overnight and winds become more onshore.

Impressive tidal piling now on the GSB as the high tide from earlier today is having trouble draining out. I used to live not far from the tide gauge in Lindenhurst located close to Chateau La Mer. While the model did pretty well with this high tide this morning, it missed how much higher the water level is now than the forecast.

Thanks. Ulster’s now at 17k out of ~100k customers vs Suffolk being at 10k with >6 times the # of customers! Ulster has almost half the outages in the entire state.

What are the models showing for later tonight across NYC/NNJ?  I haven’t had time to look at the data .  There’s been no rain all afternoon.
