Coldest point so far...26.8⁰ should pretty much take care of everything. Sadly the tomatoes were on a role, probably could have been picking through thanksgiving if the temps helped out.

This is a really fake cold. I’m not seeing much at all evidence of frost but on the cars. The air feels frost worthy however. It’s almost as though it only registered freezing because of a complete stillness of the air. Even slightest mixing, and we would be well above.  The immediate ground surfaces and shrubs appear to have too much residual heat from the recent rain and 80 degree temps to affect.

I’m also at a local max elevation in the downtown area so that may be playing an important role as well. Top of a “hill” as subtle as it may be. Important on mornings like this…

Like clockwork our early fall frost in line with climo only to see the +20 anoms return in second half of fall.

Yeah we’ve been at 26 at least 4-5 times already and the bugs seem to have no issues. I think they have heated jackets these days. Haven’t seen a mosquito in weeks though

Meh... this is how the hemisphere seasonally sheds its therms, though.

I.e, longer nights, ideal radiative transfer into free space. Then, with ensuing diurnal insolation being insufficient to add as much energy as the energy that is lost, there is a net cooling in the ambient space.  This principle makes me less objectively willing to call anything fake.

I get what that means ... I guess I just don't agree in belittling it. 

My druthers aside, these "fake cold" nights take their toll.  More of them as the sun slopes deeper by day, and the nights get yet longer and longer;  the cold battery of the winter hemisphere is gaining charge. More proficiently N than S, of course, until the build up becomes significant.
