Hi/lo for last 5 days: 6/-14 0/-19 0/-24 7/-16 -2/-10 Departures are -23/-28/-30/-22 and today is another big one. Likewise. Dec 28,29 are my 2 coldest maxima in Dec, with the 31st tied for 3rd. 27 6/-16 -24 28 -3/-14 -27 29 -1/-31 -35 Greatest departure I've seen here. 30 7/-25 -27 31 1/-18 -27 Avg: 2.0/-20.8 -28.0 I'm seeing a -30 in Gorham, ME. That's a contender for the coldest reading. Looks more like a temp from Gorham, NH than from a town 10 mils from salt water. However, IZG isn't all that much farther inland, and they reached -30. Closer to -20 here, because the wind didn't let up until late.
HoarfrostHubb
-7.3F for my overnight low...coldest of the season but nothing too unusual. But the duration of this cold is amazing Wednesday will be flip flop and burly men in pickup truck weather

My renters are keeping it at 77 in Vermont with -16 outside, should be a doozy of a bill this month. I have mine running at 64 with 6 degrees outside. Probably depends on the R value of the insulation in your rental, if it's an old place with inadequate insulation, then they might need to keep it 77F to keep the temp up inside. I was -18F last night and like it cold to sleep and kept it at 62F overnight, obviously warmer during the day.

dendrite
Of course then there's the 'Dacks. Looks like maybe -33F at ART and maybe -32F at SLK...we'll see at the 18z 6hr mins. Just saw a -37F from a RAWS site in Lowville. Of course the snow surface may be right below the temp sensor at this point.

HoarfrostHubb
A couple of years ago, during a cold snap, there were numerous reports (I think mostly from Connecticut) of “frostquakes”. Have not heard of that phenomenon this year. Also, it has not been cold enough here for my roof to pop. That typically happens when it gets to -14 or -
Hoth
A balmy zero here as I suit up for a 5 mile jog. Hope I don't freeze my baguettes off.

CapturedNature
-8° here for the low. Still -2° at 9AM. Like others have said, it's the longevity that is pretty impressive. NNE is putting up some impressive numbers! I'm hoping Saturday can break my lowest max temp record of 5° on 1/15/2004. It looks like I'll have a good chance at this point but who knows. It would be awesome to get a couple of radiation cooling nights with highs in the single digits but that doesn't look like it's in the cards. I finished December with my 4th coldest December since 1985 thanks to the cold at the end of the month. I don't think it was ranking in the top 10 before the cold.
