Top ten day. Surprised Adventureland isn’t more crowded

Definitely...bit hot in the sun but beautiful in the shade with the breeze.  I wonder if the World Cup has anything to do with lower than normal crowds.  Google Map is showing much less traffic than I would've expected on a nice summer Sunday.

Ended yesterday's rain event with 1.80" of rain in NE Queens.  Most of it was from the noontime deluge, as we missed the bulk of the afternoon/evening storms to the north and south.

one of the few this summer so far IMO between the excessive long heat spells combined with high humidity and the recent smoke and flooding rains - this summer has not been that great if you enjoy spending time outdoors.........maybe we will get a longer stretch of comfortable nicer weather starting next Thursday..........

A cooler regime, less smoky regime has settled into the region just in time for the World Cup final. The pleasant temperature regime will continue for an extended period of time. Highs will generally reach the upper 70s and lower 80s through the week into the start of the weekend.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday night and Wednesday. Some areas could pick up heavy downpours.

The long-term outlook for the remainder of July has swung to near normal or even somewhat cooler than normal on the guidance.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.4°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +1.8°C for the week centered around July 1. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +2.80°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.52°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -27.15 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.800 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 55% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 77.0° (0.5° below normal).

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.5° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

Considering those 100 degree days, it is a little surprising the month may end up near normal.

Honestly, I really don't think this summer has been that bad.  Yes I know I'm biased because this is my season, but when the heat hits we seem to get some relief after (today and tomorrow for example).  It's really been up and down.

We had a couple summers awhile back where the dewpoints were consistently high and just lingered throughout most of the season.  Someone could probably confirm, but I know at least one was pre-covid.

We're top 5 warmest from june 1 through July 15 or half of met summer. The hot stretches have been record breaking and the smoke didn't help either.

After a cooler spell in late July all signs point to a lot more record heat for early August.

Humans are like goldfish when it comes to weather though

Right, my point is that when the heat shows up it hits hard, but it otherwise has been bearable.

After the heat broke on July 5th, I've only had 2 days that were 90+ and 2 days with a low of 70+.

Yeah July hasn't been bad other than that incredible heat wave to start the month. Pretty good that we're gonna end up with a near normal month despite that record early heat. I'm glad that we've gotten much more rain this month too.

This will be a rare occasion that a dense smoke plume prevented 100°+ heat and higher departures.

74 / 54 gorgeous day today, low to mid 80s.    Front boundary pushes north tomorrow with southerly flow , humid , storms and chance for the next >1 inche of rain.  Im less enthused that we clear our or have such a nice Wednesday, i think the boundary / clouds / showers linger into Wed.  The period Thursday through the coming weekend looks great  - but still throw caution with the trough in place that systems and rain could materialize, but overall looking below normal through the 27th.  Beyond there moderation warmer and hot close and overall warmer - hot as western heat comes east.
