Well, we're getting the rain we all needed so badly lol. Radar suggest that most of the area might end up with an inch of rain today.

Got a nice changeover back to snow about 2 hours ago up on the M/D. Ended up with 1.75 slushy inches. Not what I was hoping for but snow is snow, especially this early.

Driving from Hagerstown to Frederick, lots of ice on the trees up on South Mountain.  Major roads were fine though.

rain to sleet to freezing rain to rain. if there was snow to start I didn't see it because I didn't bother to get out of bed to check when it started.

Sun just broke out from behind the clouds, that made the ice in the trees REALLY sparkle. Won't last long though, sunshine pushed temp up two degrees to 34.8 degrees just before noon.

Looked at everything last night and decided not to head north for snow. Went to get car serviced instead. Was a nasty, raw morning here in the lowlands. Still getting a cold 39° rain here. We needed it, so I’ll take it. 
 

Sad to see the WAA win out, but that’s the sad truth about these types of setups. If the high is moving out and the antecedent airmass is marginal, probably should hedge on the lower end. This setup in January probably yields one heck of a mess, but the northern tier gets slammed. Till next time!

Thanks! Unfortunately the warm nose at 800 was well modeled and deep enough to fully melt the dendrites which explains the lack of sleet even in the immediate NW suburbs.
 

Any thoughts on if this would’ve worked had it been Jan 2nd rather than Dec2nd? My hunch is this exact storm evolution wouldn’t have worked in the DC metro even in prime climo

So, trying to remember if 40 mph winds were listed in the forecast for this afternoon.... 'cuz that be happening right now. Hit 39.4 around 2 pm, been S L O W L Y dropping since. Currently 38.0/30.2 with WNW wind 16 gusting 37 mph.

Close to an inch of rain. Cold puddles. Excellent day to be inside. Getting a tiny glimpse of clearing rn, just a little blue and a few sun-illuminated clouds. Moody sunset alert (?)

It was never really going to snow here, so I’m pleased with the solid precip performance.  A good chunk of the area in the 0.75” to 1” range.

the wind just started picking up here

Ended up with 2.4". Temp now 25 with snizzle and a stiff breeze. Went out to dinner and yeah, winter is here. Wisp opens Friday and the hubby and his team are excited for a great start to the season.
