  1. 28.2 - another beautiful, crisp morning with zero wind. Love.
  2. 24.5 this morning - was so crisp and beautiful.
  3. ^^I am thinking the same thing. It was 82 here in the Boonies today although we are still drying out from last week's deluge so the dry part isn't applicable here (yet). The warmest it got all last year was 86 IMBY. Hopefully this isn't an omen.
  4. This whole system has been very dynamic. Other than the thundersnow I experienced in Nov of '22 in the epic Buffalo LES event, I had never experienced thundersnow. Until yesterday IMBY. To me at least, that's one of - if not the - coolest weather phenomenon there is.
  5. The sun/snow/sun cycle didn’t exactly make for good sledding but it sure did make for pretty scenes throughout the day. This was after a snow shower late yesterday.
  6. So...question about measurements. Around lunchtime, I was on an endless Teams meeting and we had about 45 minutes of fairly heavy snow. It looked like it was nearly an inch but by the time the meeting was over, the sun returned and most of it melted. How would I account (or not) for that?
  7. We have had several rounds of moderate snow come through. I was surprised at the latest one - temp dropped from 34 to 31 and it quickly accumulated on elevated surfaces. Once it stops, the sky brightens and quickly fades away. Spring in the Boonies
  8. 1.98" for the day and 4.27" for the event so far. Fairly significant flooding in parts of GC. Front has passed through and temps are slowly dropping (now 40.5/38.6). Should be good for some spring snow although I'd be shocked at my elevation if it amounts to much. I'll be heading to Davis and Canaan tomorrow afternoon as soon as I'm done with work to see what it looks like up in the valley.
  9. This has been, by far, the biggest overall rain event since I moved to the Boonies in October of 2022. 1.49" so far today and a storm total since Monday morning of 3.78". Currently raining about a third of an inch per hour but earlier this morning, it briefly touched nearly 2". The storm's caboose looks to provide a sloppy April snow show keeping the need for any post-winter sunscreen for my bald head at bay.
  10. I hope you got home in good shape! 70 is such a peach with the rain and trucks. The bucket is now at 2.15" and rising with the latest round coming through. Step, squish. Repeat.
  11. 0.49" since midnight and 1.79" since yesterday. Smaller streams are flowing at near capacity so it'll get interesting if we get some heavier returns later.
  12. Lots of elevated instability early this morning with off and on T&L although it is quiet now. 48.9 with 1.06" in the bucket so far.
  13. Legit winter morning here. Light snow, 22.6 for a low and lotsa wind. Had about a half-inch-ish which quickly disappeared w/the high of 40.3. Been a while since it felt like winter (since it technically still is) but the ski resorts have closed up shop and as much as I love snow, time to move on.
  14. We had some intense squalls yesterday, but the warm ground caused a lot of it to melt in between snow showers prior to dusk. I am estimating 3" on the ground this morning. And like the rest of us, the wind was relentless.
  15. In deeply meteorological terms, a solid dusting so far. For a change, plenty cold at 27.3 with a stiff WNW breeze. Very light snow at the moment; looking forward to some heavier stuff as the day progresses.
  16. 1.02" in the bucket so far today & 41.0 delightful degrees. Looks like tomorrow will be a different story w/a 'reasonable worst case' 10 inches. At least I don't have to fly to Reno to get it lol.
  17. Wisp's last day of operation (boo) is Sunday. Going to be a bit ironic that it should be a cold/snowy day there but unfortunately sandwiched between endless days in the 60s.
  18. So it ends. Let the long journey home commence. Based on additional snowfall yesterday and last night, ended up with 130 inches. Too expensive, somewhat irresponsible, totally impulsive, achingly laborious. And I will look back with nary an ounce of regret as this was the best tasting chicken soup for the soul I could have imagined.

  20. The wind kept the snow in the parking lot from completely burying the cars. Good news! The not so good news is what’s remaining is true Sierra Cement. A front loader and a spinning turbine should be here by noon so we can really start digging out. Impossible to say what the storm total was but after seeing some regional observations and talking with folks that live here, it’s a solid 120 inches…10 feet.

  22. No kidding. It’s getting to be a pain traveling for storms! .
  23. Greetings again from Donner! This epic storm continues. The entire front of the condo building has now disappeared. We’ve been taking turns at an entrance on the windward side, keeping that open (well, kinda) so at least we can get outside. To get this picture, I waded through waist to chest high snow. I have done multiple lake effect chases so I have seen some pretty intense snow but earlier today we had a thunderstorm that easily dropped 4 or 5 inches in 30 minutes. Still no power, no plow and no internet (phone works!) but warm and well fed. What a once in a lifetime experience for someone who loves this stuff.
  24. Greetings again from Donner! The entire front of the four-story condo has now disappeared. We have been taking turns on a side entrance keeping that clear (well, kinda) so that at least we can get outside. I do a lot of lake effect chasing so I have seen some incredibly intense snowfall but we had a thunderstorm earlier today that easily dropped 4 or 5 inches in a 30 minute time span. Pretty epic storm.
  25. I’m from the MidAtlantic forum and don’t post here but thought I would share with you a picture I just took of the condo I’m staying at Donner Pass in California. Our weather has been shitty so I decided to chase this epic Sierra snowstorm. Mind you, this building is four stories tall and it’s on the leeward side of the wind direction, but still….
