I went to the gym to get ahead of the rain situation. It was oppressive enough going in. However, when I came out it was light rain and was only 1 degree warmer (car thermometer). And it felt like the dewpoint had not budged. It was like the tropics.

I think we'll get some decent rain out of this, but good luck to all getting hammered.

The big question is whether there is another round later tonight.  We typically don’t do late night convection well, but there is forcing arriving later.   Radar is lighting up over WV; guidance is mixed about how significant it is when it reaches DC metro in a few hours.

Drove from Reston back to Edgewater earlier. The lightning show the entire drive was surreal. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen lightning like this around here. The spider-effect on the C2C lightning was a thing of beauty. The CG strikes went nuts once I got on Rt50 off of 495. Incredible show with some close strikes across eastern AA Co.

This has been an energetic summer thanks to all the humidity and deep moisture layer presence. MUCAPE has been consistently breaching 3000 J/kg along the western shores of the Bay most days with a few days >4000 J/kg. Textbook environments for these convective elements and long lasting lightning shows. Still got a ways to go to get out of this too. Incredible run we are on.

0.02 today for a three day total of flood watches of 0.03... Never seen that before..

Not that we need rain - got slammed Sunday - monthly total approaching 4.50...

Remain torn on these daily flood watches , there is no doubt that where these storms in this moist atmosphere set up-fast and significant flash flooding can occur.. We haven't reached the technical ability yet to pinpoint exactly where that will be - like identical supercells out in the plains - one might produce a significant tornado but the other dosent... However there is no doubt that any tornado watch out west will be taken much more seriously than a flood watch around here..

However to the average person - non weather fanatic who knows nothing about the details ,  daily flood watches showing up on phone weather apps without a large synoptic or tropical system that's all over the news or social media kind of creates a yeah ok whatever attitude......

This shows how much of a craphole this place is and that it's not me exaggerating.  Great looking radar moving in from west broke up right over me, then reformed east.  This happens over and over.  Only 0.5" total since July 2

You and East Coast NPZ should definitely grab dinner together.
