2/19-20 Winter Storm Observations

That it?  Around 4”. It was awesome for a couple hours under that band.  Didn’t expect it to fall apart so fast up here though. Thought we would be in heavy precip until 3-4pm. Oh well. Not bad.

And I was getting pixie dust interleaved with dry notches the whole time until recently. Best snow of the day the past hour or so here. Still going to under perform per forecasts(not my expectations).

Why not? It’s better than changing over to pouring rain.

Some of us north of Baltimore weren’t going to change over for a while yet so the dryslot killed a few hours of snow/sleet potential up here. If I was down there I would be thrilled with a dryslot about now. So it’s a matter of perspective based on location.

5.0 total for me in the Milestone area of Germantown.  Puts me at 26.5 for the winter which is incredible given the overall pattern.

Radar looks like the precip is over, and I am fine with that.  I did not want a bunch of freezing rain.  It would be great if the rain stays away tonight.

Edit to add that my parents in northern Calvert (4 miles south of Dunkirk) report only about an inch with light sleet falling.  That's why I am N/W of the city!

It's finally gotten to 32 and IP at DCA.

It's beating down my accumulations.

I want R*** to wash away the other stuff so I don't have to play with it tomorrow.

Doesn't seem like 1 inch of precip is going to happen. Unless something changes, models will bust badly on precip.

About 4" here in Edgewood....it's been snowing moderate to heavy since about 9:00 a.m.  Just went on a 2 mile walk and it was beautiful.  Few thing better in life than that.  The snow rate has come down a bit over the past 1/2 hour and I would assume the transition to sleet is knocking on my door.  Here's hoping for a colder than normal March and a few more chances of snow.

No sleet, just dry slot.

5" on the dot.  Wiped the snowboard.  Just a few tiny flakes falling now.  Still haven't heard a ping.  WSW verified for snow alone!

That’s not dca’s official report. They have reported over .4 of frozen precip(almost all snow)as of the last hour. Not possible

Yea nothing saw that dryslot blasting across MD around noon like that. Just about all guidance had the heaviest precip here and northeast MD between 12-3. It’s not that we got it early it’s just the band literally fell apart due to some kind of dry air intrusion to the north of the convective band to our south. My snow accumulation was about where it should have been at 12:30 but I was supposed to get another 2-4” sn/pl between 12:30-3 or so.

Not a disaster. 4” isn’t bad.  It’s a low bust though when forecast was 6-8”. I kind of thought that was a little high though. My expectation was more 5-7. Still fell slightly short.

Ok I haven’t looked at the long range since yesterday...time to dig in and figure out where the 16” I still need to get to climo is coming from!!!

Yeah the cold held but precip busted low, more so in eastern areas. although generally less was forecast here. Still a bit surprising my totals are going to be half of what was forecast, and not because of the warm nose, which also was not very well forecast. Still snowing here with a bit of sleet mixed in, and not much more to come per radar.

Definitely an odd storm. Was worried about a changeover all this time when a lot of us should have been worried about the storm just ending.

No sleet or ice to speak of. Its just over. 3 inches here.

Can't complain that we sneaked this one in.

1” sleet/snow since I swept my spot. 3.5” total so far.

Will likely be the last bit as temps are soaring. Up to 31 after being 29.9 just about an hour ago.

Sleet changing to zr and soon will be just rain after I lose freezing temps

I had kind of assumed this would be one and done, but now I'm wondering about school tomorrow. Streets around here haven't been plowed, it'll be interesting to see what happens tonight.

I think they are all hoping (as I am) that the overnight blowtorch will take care of it, if the DOTbergmakers haven't.

But as usual, tune into your favorite newspeddlers at 4 am again.
