* WHAT...Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph
  expected.

* WHERE...Portions of The District of Columbia, central, north
  central, northern, southern and western Maryland, central,
  northern, northwest and western Virginia and eastern and
  panhandle West Virginia.

* WHEN...From noon today to midnight EDT tonight.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree
  limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high
profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

You would think that with such an extended dry period we wouldn't have to worry about flooding, wouldn't you?

Every single rain event in the past few years seems to produce flooding in some part of the DC area.

Every single one!!

The summerlike mid-60s dewpoints during the heaviest rain didn't help.

Too much rain in too little time will get you no matter how dry things are.

We're also reaching the time of year where the plants, trees, grass, etc. are no longer drinking the rain water like they were during the summer. So it wouldn't take as much rain in a given amount of time to lead to flooding. I guess the lower sun angle leading to less evaporation also adds to this to an extent.

1.58" event total.   A bit heavy at times but a decent soaker for prep for this weekend's bonfires! :)

Wind is fine, let's bring down more leaves, like to get leaf season wrapped up by the first week of November.  We could use some wind, it's been far too calm too long.
