Scott747
Second recon is booking it. Might get there before landfall. First one spent extra time in the eye so it might be tight for it to make another pass.

HillsdaleMIWeather
They just got an 892 extrapolated so it's strengthening while they're in the eye. Unreal.
CTWeatherFreak
Anybody near a tv, forget TWC. Fox Weather doing a great job with nonstop coverage including great shots from the planes inside the eye. 4

If so, we could have ground truth of the strongest or 2nd strongest landfall ever in the Atlantic basin. At least in recorded history. dan11295
Can't imagine the wind gusts that will occur at elevated locations with this storm. Fortunately a lot of buildings there are concrete block at least.

BooneWX
Jeff Piotrowski is live from Santa Cruz. He should get the eastern eyewall: https://x.com/jeff_piotrowski/status/1983145649861202156?s=12

Windspeed
I can't post an image right now, but the low-level cloud swirl pattern near the surface inside the eye of Melissa right now is very indicative of multiple (at least five or six) large mesovorticies rotating around the eye. If that persists through landfall, pretty much any location inside the eyewall, regardless of quadrant, is going to get wrecked.
TheDreamTraveler
Gotta hand it to the couple of models that were predicting this to get pressure to the 880's a week or two ago. I know some people didn't believe it'd get that low but here we are.

lee59
I doubt you find anything on the coast near landfall. Mandeville should be in the eyewall or just east and I believe it is somewhat elevated, bad scenario. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov6mC9CdGVE

Bryan63
My wife and I honeymooned in White House and have been back a few times, traveling from Montego Bay to the South Coast. I don't think most people fully understand the poverty levels in Jamaica, particularly as you get into the mountains. Small shacks and houses not built out of concrete. Just gutted for the people and hoping it somehow doesn't pan out the way it's looking. 4 2
