Seems to be ending as a fine light snow. I’m guessing we pushed 3” here on UWS (saw the 2.8 at CPK which seems right for when it was reported). At least it’s not getting washed off the trees.

only about an inch and a half here of compressed snow/ice on Union/Middlesex County border in NJ - and its just about over fast moving storm less then 6 hours long can still see the some grass and ground underneath it all

4.4 here in the northern bronx. Pred p type thruout was snow.sleet also but not as much as advertized. Rn its still snowing with some sleet mixed in.. Temp back to 28f.

I managed less than that just across the river. Just went outside; rain and slush. Really got shafted this time. CNJ was not the place to be. Never expected much but surprised areas to the east did much better.

So, during Nemo (Feb 2013), when the two streams actually phased, there was so much volatility and upward motion that it created a significant amount of lighting. This led to so much latent heat release that thunder snow turned to thunder sleet for nearly an hour. It was not the layers of the atmosphere, it was the actual lightning causing the snow to melt and then it refroze before hitting the ground. I always found that fascinating.

As I had mentioned, I was way too pessimistic here, as we had a decent amount of heavy sleet and heavy freezing rain in the ~90 minutes after this post, so when I went out to shovel around 12:30 am, after the precip had stopped, I measured 1.6" of slop, which probably contained 0.5-0.6" of QPF (I didn't do a ratio, but saw a radar estimate in that range).  If I had to guess it was 0.5" of snow (0.05" QPF), which I saw early, plus 1.1" of 2.5:1 sleet (0.44" QPF) and 0.1" ZR for 0.59" QPF.  That's a guess, but I can absolutely tell you that this slop kicked my ass (and shoulder, lol) as it felt like a 5-6" of snow shoveling, as it took almost 2 hours. But on the plus side, I did get to meet @Allsnowas he was plowing our street and saw me out there in my RU gear and asked if I was RU#s, so we chatted for a bit which was nice and then we both went back to work.  The 1.6" was also probably more, but had compacted with the alternating sleet and rain, but anyway, it brings my seasonal total up to 12.8".  Now let's get some more next week.

Those rates were crazy. 1-2"/ hr stuff, and definitely closer towards 2 at times. It piled up QUICK.

Freezing drizzle here with 28F.  Kudos to the RGEM / Euro for predicting the snow burst that set up over the Metro area.  For me the NAM gets the win with no snow and sleet and freezing rain only.  I got about 0.25” of sleet and ice.  I actually just woke up to the sound of the salt truck in my neighborhood.  Many of the models were predicting a tight gradient between snow and no snow over western NJ and that turned out to be the case.

Light freezing drizzle here.  Temp rose as high as 31.8 around 4am, but back down to 30.0 as of 5am.  I'd be asleep but the town plows are insistent on scraping off a layer of asphalt.

Stopped at the parents in Whitestone to clear them. I would say at most 2-3 icy inches.
