Discussion-OBS Weekend Feb 8-9 Another mainly 12 hour snow-ice event possibly changing to rain before ending Sunday. NYC-LI-S of I78 on the edge?

N Smithtown 10:30 29.3⁰ Snow.  3.5" total

There seemed to be some pingers when I was taking the measurement but they appear to have been graupel based on the sleeve test.  Back to S+ now, viz 1/4 (10:40pm)

Storm is supposed to end by 11pm to 1am. 

I’m upstate. Supposed to snow till 7 am. Flip to rain/snow between 11 and 1 for you.

That initial thump was legit. Damn near zero visibility at times. Haven't seen snow that heavy since the 2022 snowstorm

Went out to shovel 45 minutes ago with mod snow falling. Measured 2.3". Within 5 minutes it changed to all freezing rain for 5 or 10 minutes. Then mixed with sleet. Then back to snow. Small flakes, and just light. 24.1°

Still snowing moderately in Ossining. The mix line has been stalled near the Hudson River but I suspect a changeover is imminent. Nice storm up here for a few hours. 27°

Sure was … it took me almost 2 hours to travel 4 miles … roads went from fine to impassable in a blink

31 degrees and just a coating. Sounded like quite a bit of sleet hitting the windows about 20 minutes ago. Calmed a bit now

Astoria has a solid 3”. Heaviest snow I’ve seen in a long time earlier. Ripping sleet up until a few minutes ago. Now back to snow. Not as heavy as earlier but big flakes.

JFK is usually the lowest of the 3 climate sites, I expect that to be reflected by this storm as well. It’s funny because the way NYC is spread out, I feel like they are all equally accurate for their respective areas. JFK is usually indicative of south shore Queen/BK, Staten Island. Central Park is usually indicative of Manhattan and Bronx. And LaGuarida is usually indicative of the city’s largest borough, Queens. So I guess they each have some value but Central Park definitely under measures most of the time

Its snowing with just a bit of sleet here in the bx. The last bands are moving thru.a 3 to 5 inch line is going to cut thru the northern parts of the city across in to li.

I live in northern Brooklyn its closer to lga tbh
