Its one thing dealing with 150 mph winds.....a while other thing dealing with that and tsunami like storm surges. the reverse surge out of Tampa Bay is wild. Historic storm, no other way to describe it. Yeah, sad to think that all that water going out some place is coming back in at another place. It's really like a mound and like we're seeing, something like a tsunami.

We should actually see Ian weaken faster than normal when compared to other landfalling hurricanes in Florida. That drum has been banged and has failed repeatedly. Yes eventually they all do weaken but it’s not shear nor dry air that’s doing it while the eye is over water. Inland it will weaken because it’s inland so will see if “dry air/shear” crowd will chirp some more

NJwx85
It looks like the Orlando area will get what’s left of the Western eyewall tonight and tomorrow AM. Could be the worst storm in WDW history.

It is coming out of the canals now. Those fences on the far left and far right are almost covered now-at least a foot rise in 15 minutes maybe? mappy
Captiva should be seeing calmer conditions as eyewall passes and eye comes overhead. Official landfall won’t be long from now
Normandy
Ian is going to produce much more inland wind than charley. Charley was falling apart as it crossed Orlando and was much smaller. Orlando easily sees those gusts (and over three times as long in duration) with this one I think.
