Winds have been unimpressive here. Best I could manage in 2 days is a 24 mph gust. Wasn't expecting much but more than that.

Is there a reason why these wind storms always seem to peak at night? I guess it's just random but I can only remember one peaking during the day and that was 03/02/2018. That event is still king for my area in terms of high wind events. It beats October 2017 and 2021 for sure.

Yeah there's like 11,000 customers without power in Massachusetts. Not a shockingly high number. In February we had 300,000 in March 65,000.  With full leaf out it's unimpressive.

I don’t want to step in the middle of this, but why would the temperature be accurate but the winds not?

Like that’s likely the wind speed in your yard just like the temperature, no?

I 100% understand what you are saying, you are trying to estimate the wind above treetop height, right?

To me it’s like saying your temperature is 35F on a night the station says 45F… but saying “well if the trees weren’t there and it was open to the sky above, I’d have radiated more.”

Do you live 100 feet up above the canopy?  I feel like that caveat is important to mention.

It’ll just be bands of showers tomorrow, but yeah, rain will be intermittent through Monday. Probably another steady slug as the low moves  back northeast.

I mean there’s almost no one here that has a home wx station that uses their anemometers for winds . They all know they aren’t correct . Unless it’s mounted up on a roof on hilltop like Gene

I guess that’s where I got caught up.  They are correct for sampling 2-meter wind speed.   They are just boring; like that’s the speed the wind is 6 feet above your yard. Same with temperature. We don’t like that and want to sample the free air above treetop exposed wind because it’s more sexy.

The one part of it I can square is that the force that would cause tree damage is the wind at canopy top level.  Like knowing what wind speed at that 80-100 foot level above ground starts tree damage would be important.

It’s sort of like tarmac temps/winds vs wooded area temps/winds.  Pros and cons to both sitings.

The weenie set up is temp close to ground and wind 100 feet overhead.
