Anyway you slice it in ACATT, the pack was all a dream and we go AN for a time. Pattern reshuffle as early as 10 days from now or as delayed as late month. We hopefully will have some solid opportunity once the new pattern settles in. Pretty cut and dry. Was a nice run of snowpack while it lasted.

Mid month...but I mean, would I be shocked it it's January 13 or 17th? No, you get the idea...give or take...

18z gfs def playing the mesolow game next Tuesday night/Wed morning. Joining some of the other guidance. This could make it kind of nasty from Ray’s area down through interior SNE with a bit of icing.

RGEM too…nice little front ender up here on Wed. That would be a messy commute Wed AM for many NoP.

Patience is the key here.  The CFS weeklies and Euro weeklies all showed a relaxation after New Year's with a change back to a colder pattern afterwards.  The Euro weekly nailed the cold temps in Dec and this upcoming warm up back in early Dec.  Let's enjoy a little bit of a thaw and see what comes on the other side of it.  The weeklies show another several weeks of favorable conditions are incoming after it.  I don't always have faith in the long term "climate" models but their 500mb depictions since December have been in the ballpark.

Ya I mean 90% we all lose the pack this week pike south. I’ve accepted this for about 5 days now

It is a bummer too.....solid week+ and it is still a nice fluffy pack. Went for a hike today, in a sunny, open field and it was still a solid 4-5 inches. This is why early season snowfalls are nice, they stick around, even when the temps are marginal...If this was Mid February-Mid March it would have been gone by now or at least a muddy inch.

Careful …AMATT will say you’re trying to protect the pack

Yeah walked the dog at like 1:00pm and it was such a beautiful winter day out there. Not only has the pack stayed around for a bit, the little 1” refreshments have kept it pretty clean looking which is always a bonus for winter scenery.

Yeah the cold has been pretty impressive too. Early season helps a lot with sun angle but ripping off like a -5 departure over 5 weeks doesn’t hurt either. That combo is great for trying to protect fairly thin snow packs. We’ve had snow OTG for so many days even though our total is a little BN to date. Your area has done a little better in the snow department because of 12/26 but still same general idea.

Problem is at some point we are going to loose the negative departures and trend more towards normal or slightly above temps….Question is when does it happen and what kind of precip chances will we get?!?

You’ve been saying this non stop since it got cold…lol.  Yes, we lose the negative departures  by Wednesday, then it gets cold again after Sunday..so there ya go, the answer to your question.
