Saw videos of the tornados and damage from them.  Very rare for tornados that size in the Northeast, and rare for a tropical system to spin up such sizes.   How did this system produce those?  Usually they are EF0-1

Watching News 12 New Jersey. Just saw some yahoo drive through flood water on a closed portion of the Garden State Parkway near exit 147. Can’t make it up.

Sandy was worst than this storm in my part but this storm was worse for a larger part of the area. Sandy hit the coastal areas area . This storm hit everyone hard.

The HREF was the only piece of guidance that had the 10”+ potential correct. Notice how tucked in near the 1-95 corridor it was. The team of scientists  that developed this system deserves an award. Most impressive model performance in an extreme event since the Euro in Sandy.

Crazy flooding. Grew up in North Jersey for 27 years till 2019 and that has to be some of the worst flooding I’ve seen. They’ve had bad floods before ie Floyd but this was just a crazy amount of water in such a short time.

All this damage and this wasn't even a hurricane. I don't want to even imagine how much damage a strong hurricane would do up here. This ranks up with Sandy .

I am guessing that some spots may have approached 1000 year rainfall levels. NYC recorded a 500 year return interval for our old climate. But these return intervals will be shorter in our wetter climate.

This isn’t as bad as Sandy but it does look catastrophic in some areas. The problem as always is flooding here. NYC is surrounded by water on 3 sides and we have so much underground infrastructure that floods in a situation like this. Tragically my thought that our death toll might end up higher than the South’s from Ida looks like will verify.

Leveled off with a final storm total of around 5”, which pretty much makes Ida surpass Isaias as the most rain I’ve seen from a TC since Irene
