  1. relative to the normal of the time you have to go as far back as the 1890's to find a year with well above normal temperatures and then have a cool April and May...
  2. 2007 was the last time NYC had temperatures in the 50's for July and August...the 2010's had only two years that temps dropped below 60...Aug 2011 and 2013 had a min of 59 for the month.,.Compare that to the 1970's which had seven years and six in a row with July and August getting below 60...
  3. 1944 and 1977 were noted for its heat waves topping out at 100 degrees...I didn't look at maps for those years to see if the overall pattern was the same in late May...1944 and 1977 are both in the 11 year hot summer cycle...next year is the cycle year...1943 was a hot summer...one of the few that preceded the 11 yr cycle...
  4. 64 with low clouds...only made it up to 70 yesterday...
  5. next year is 11 years since the last hot summer in the 11 year hot summer cycle...if the cycle continues this year will be cooler than average...Next year is hot...the following year cooler again... the summers before the 11 year hot summer cycle were much cooler on average...the year after the hot summers were also much cooler on average...the total 90 degree days were... 1899-1910-1921-1932-1943-1954-1965-1976-1987-1998-2009 averaged 15... 90 degree days... 1900-1911-1922-1933-1944-1955-1966-1977-1988-1999-2010 averaged 26....90 degree days... 1901-1912-1923-1934-1945-1956-1967-1978-1989-2000-2011 averaged 13....90 degree days... 1922 was the only year with less 90 degree days than the year before or after...
  6. did not make it out of the 60's again...foggy now and 57...
  7. the latest 90 degree temperature in NYC since 1950..... 1985.....7/14 1960.....7/12 1982.....7/8 1972.....7/2 2014.....7/2 1958.....7/1 ………………….. before development... 1877.....7/26 1878.....7/18 1869.....7/16
  8. I was thinking the same but 1992 had a heat wave in May which turned out the hottest of the year...temps averaged below normal from March to November in 92...el nino lingered longer too...there is a difference between this May and May 92...
  9. very little rain so far as the showers are dancing around Staten Island...sooner or later it will get here...
  10. I had just enough rain to wet the ground...70 was my max today...
  11. I know it happened in 2003...not sure after that...
  12. I wasn't born yet but the weather played a big part in both plane crashes into 40 wall st and the empire state building...fog was a big contributor for both...
  13. May 2020 had temps in the 30's for the first time since 1978 in NYC...its just as hard to get temps into the 40's in June...the last time that happened was in 2000 when the lowest min was 49...The first week in June 1945 had temps in the 40's almost every morning...it was the worst start to June on record if you wanted heat...after mid month in 1945 it got hot and record heat ended the month...
