At 2 pm, near record to record heat covers the region. Newark has its first 100° day in June since June 9, 2011. High temperatures include:

Boston: 98°

Hartford: 98° (tied record set in 1934)

New York City-JFK: 90°

New York City-LGA: 98° (tied record set in 1959 and tied in 2012)

New York City-NYC: 95°

Newark: 101° (old record: 100°, 1934 and 1959)

Providence: 96° (tied record set in 1934)

Hi Don - what do you think the chances are that the big cities of NYC and Philly see the type of extreme heat in July and/or August seen out west? Those western temps are really worrisome and I worry same thing could happen here.

The 102° at Newark ties the June all-time high temperature.

I suspect we’ll see some extreme heat, but not to the unprecedented extent seen in the Pacific Northwest. Statistically, Seattle’s 108-degree high would be the equivalent of 112 in New York City and 113 in Philadelphia. The odds of such an extreme outbreak will increase in coming decades, though.

I miss my rainwise and nimbus set up I had when I lived on College Ave...my back yard is hot despite hving a pool...maybe the Sun reflecting off the water has something to do with it?...

Maybe move the accurite one off the fence? I still use my Nimbus thermo...its my backup.. I think I got it around 1990.

I have a Taylor min/max from 1987...was calibrated in 1992...I don't have a place to put my sheltor...I tried the shield in the front of the house but it was just as hot...
