Clueless, how are your roads? You got a TON of snow up there on Route 9, are your roads passable yet?

VDOT did a good job getting them clear in a short amount of time.  Monday I managed to get out and take a drive around town.  They are just okay.   Neighborhood roads are basically one lane. There is just so much snow and no where to put it.  We at least need to get the main 'hood roads to two lanes before Monday when school starts.  Huge piles of snow at intersections make for driving interesting after a storm. Today's commute should be interesting for the govies.  Anyway,I am still amazed we managed to shovel our way out of the house.

Awful story and why in the hell would you make a sled path pointed towards a road?  Ugh.

Agreed, but it sounds like it was a complete freak accident with a car that just happened to be coming down the otherwise quiet cul-de-sac at the time.  But yeah, first rule in playing near a street, always have someone on the lookout for cars.  With a car traveling slow there's likely only one horrific way the kid was fatally injured.

Saw that loudon county schools are done for the week. AA Co schools won't reopen til Friday. And Carroll Co. may not open this week either.

Driving into Leesburg from Winchester this morning I was actually impressed with the road conditions. The left lane was pinched a couple of times on 7 near Mt. Weather and Purcellville. But overall the crews have done an outstanding job in the RT. 7 corridor. Now the back roads of Leesburg are still pretty disastrous.

I've got the post storm blues as well. Especially watching it melt. I savored every minute of it while it was here. I pulled my hat off, flipped back my coat hood and just lived it lol. I was outside for as long as I could take it. Warmed up and back at it. I can't say I didn't get to experience it. I lived it.

Love this! Me, I'd have gone out in a t-shirt. I am a HARD-CORE snow, cold and wind lover. I would have also found a place where I didnt think anyone could see me and rolled around, wallowed around in all the deep snow like a walrus in the high Arctic.

Snow melting? You can still go out right now and shovel snow! Don't put up with the Plowberg Blockade! Get empowered the Jebman way and power thru those bergs with a stout, rugged, square-edged, built for the construction of the MGM National Harbor Casino Jebman Shovel! Free your fellow neighbors from the clutches of the greatest Blizzard of the ages and enjoy digging massive amounts of snow at the same time!

We've lost a good bit last few days but def still lots of snow out there. I guess it's partly the drifting. It sure seemed like more snow than Feb 5-6 2010 even though I measured about the same.

My comment was more of an indictment on how poorly heavily-traveled secondary roads have been plowed.

While I understand frustration at not having all lanes available for travel (it was annoying during my midday commute today), there are only so many plows and so many crews in this area. They need to refuel, resupply, and test at some point, and many of the plows simply aren't big/powerful enough to handle 20"+ of snow on the roads. Try as they may, a guy in a pickup truck with a blade on it isn't going to make much headway against that kind of snowpack.
