I just don't want it to be 99/82 in my neighborhood like last June's heat wave. That was ridiculous. It does look like 100+ is a lock in the lowlands. How hot can we get? Stay tuned! I think 102F is in reach for areas just away from the water.

Here in the lowlands I never doubt heat. This area is the Oswego County of heat. Just like the Tug, when they call for snow, it always happens, and some. Same here with heat

I'll bet you're glad you're retired from H20 work now!

Oh hell yes. Y’all don’t know just how miserable it can be to work outside for days in heat like what’s coming. Big heat in summer was the #1 thing I hated about work. Ticks, chiggers, poison ivy, snakes, almost getting hit by cars was gravy compared to dehydration and heat exhaustion.

I honestly think those folks on here that wish/hope for as hot as possible temps are nutty in a way that only they can be (and I mean this mostly lovingly).

You can easily bundle up in cold....not really an "easy" way to not be drenched in sweat...

Lets got for widespread 105/75

Having lived in North Dakota for a decade, this is spot on. With heat, once you're naked or have loose all white clothing on, there's nothing else you can do. With cold, just put on more layers.

I will take -10 / -10 vs. 100/75 any day.

Be honest, you triple checked one of the words in this post before you hit Submit, didn't you?

Looks like the hottest days will occur as the ridge shifts into a position that will place our region in a westerly/downsloping flow. That should mean lowering dewpoints in the afternoon, which of course allows for more efficient heating. That's probably the rationale for rural areas (like my location) having forecast highs over 100. Typically the higher dewpoints inhibit that. Still don't buy 104 here.

Spot on.  I worked as a laborer for a construction company in the summer while going to college.  Trucks did not have air con.  Once you get drenched in sweat there's not much more stink you can pile on.  Baled hay too.  Helped my brother in Ohio last week move, stack and restack nearly 200 bales.  It's one thing when you are young and skinny and can dissipate heat well.  It's another when you're in your mid-60's, fat, and out of shape (haha).  I feel for the people who HAVE to be out in the heat because it's their work/profession.  Those who choose to be in the heat out of their own preference have the luxury to quit when they want.  This week is going to put a load on the electrical grid to keep up.

Dude I don’t even like to say that word out loud because if it isn’t clearly overheard then all hell breaks loose. But saying little tiny biting bugs that cause incessant itching is too long.

The last time we hit 100 in this area was 38 years ago on August 18, 1988.   I recorded 102 on that day as I was managing a VDOT paving crew. Try that when the pavement is close to 200 out of the plant.. It will melt the soles on your shoes.

I dunno man, the thermometer at Westside pool in Staunton's west end had frequent 100+ readings back in the 1990s!

I'm going by the Staunton official records.   A thermometer exposed to the rays of the sun or other artificial heating can register significantly higher than actual air temperature. Even reflective heat can artificially inflate the temperature.
