A cooler regime is in place and will remain in place through the remainder of July. Highs will generally reach the upper 70s and lower 80s through the week and into the start of the weekend.

A few more Showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight into tomorrow. With an estimated 4.73" of rain as per precip.ai, White Plains smashed its daily rainfall record of 2.20" from 1973.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.1°C for the week centered around July 15. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.82°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -17.36 today. 

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.673 today. 

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 74% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.6° (0.9° below normal). 

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.1° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

Maybe 0.6” here. Was pretty evident this morning/early afternoon there wouldn’t be much in between the South Jersey Alley storms and monsoon/storms north and west. Even though it’s a wet July we’re still in a drought and we take.

Wife said it was the worst rain she's driven in before.  Checked the guage, got 1.5" if rain today.

Cape May only had 0.71" for the entire month before today.
There up to 2.83" for today, including 1.89" for the past hour and the radar is still training over that area.  
Amazing how you can get a lot of it back within a short time frame.

This was my heaviest rainfall in an hour since moving up to CT. Picked up 3.18 yesterday from around 1:50 to 2:50 PM. The daily total in my area was 3.72.

Channel 7 showed a rainfall graphic this morning showing parts of the city, LI, and Jersey south of I78 got very little out of this event compared to areas to the north.

Two rounds of storms passed through my area of Queens yesterday afternoon for a storm total of 0.57".

Kind of surprised by the 1651 reading of only 0.06" in CPK.  I was in Midtown when that cell flared up at 1600 and it looked like tropical downpours for nearly 10 mins. Sure seemed like a bit more than what they reported.

77 / 72 leftover showers and humidity as front fully passes through later today, Probably the warmest of the next 5 mid / uppper 80s.  Gorgeous stretch Thu - Sun coming up , similar to Monday low - mid 80s.  Next trough/front moves through Mon/Tue and then onto drier calmer.  Overall below normal throught he end of the month with ridge and heat west , heat does beging pushing east in the 7/31 - 8/5 period and we'll see how much gets into the area and when the next shot at 90s will be.

1992: Lightning hit on or near a concrete mixing truck near Walla Walla, WA; a man was knocked off the truck. 10 minutes later a 2nd strike knocked him away from the truck again. 1993: The levee, holding back the flooding Mississippi River at Kaskaskia, Illinois, ruptures, forcing the town's people to flee on barges. The incident at Kaskaskia was the most dramatic event of the flood. At 9:48 a.m., the levee broke, leaving the people of Kaskaskia with no escape route other than two Army Corp of Engineers barges. By 2 p.m., the entire town was underwater.

 

1999: The Cedar River in Charles City, IA reached its all-time crest of an estimated 22.8 feet. Approximately 100 homes had flood damage in Charles City. 2006: Widespread damaging winds, estimated around 90 mph, raked most of Jefferson County in south central Illinois. The city of Mt. 2011: A low of 82 degrees Fahrenheit on the 22nd at Norfolk tied for the second highest minimum temperature ever recorded there.
