Sea breeze always wins out along the coast with this heat. Upper 80s will feel fantastic next week and the weekend.

Ocean temps finally warmed to where I can tolerate it without a wetsuit.

On the barrier islands sure but just inland away from them made it to 100 during the heat last summer since we had an established WNW downslope flow. We’ll see if that holds this time but it might be very impressive near the coast where that offshore flow can maintain.

Got up to 103 here last June and 100 last July, shocked me, I was starting to think deep Long Island couldn’t pull off 100.

105 (in Queens) in July 2011 is still my personal all time highest, it’d be nice to break that eventually.

NYC is a disgrace and should be moved to northeastern Central Park where there’s better siting.

Down the shore this week. Water is still chilly. 64 today; sea breeze for the win.

If sea breeze can kick in right at the beach it will save the day.  If west or NW flow prevents it you will cook.  Friday looks like the best day to cook.  Local sea breeze could save the day on Thursday and / or Saturday.

A warming trend has gotten underway. The warmth will continue to build through the remainder of June before culminating in a severe heatwave to start July.

Some of the guidance suggests that the heat could rival that of early July 1966. Much of the region will likely experience its highest temperatures so far this summer. Baltimore, Newark, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC will all likely see the temperatures peak at or above 100°. Washington, DC could make a run at its all-time record of 106°.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.0°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +1.7°C for the week centered around June 17. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +2.42°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.22°C. The ongoing El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -11.81 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +1.126 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 100% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal June (1991-2020 normal). June will likely finish with a mean temperature near 73.2 (1.2° above normal).

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 1.8° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.
