LWX is down for hopefully just an hour but if you try and approximate with KDOX band doesn’t seem to be setting up too far north. Guess we’ll see.

KIAD will be good to track as snow starts making it's way into the lower atmosphere. SPC shows some scattered FGEN at the 700mb level but better dynamics out west. Which, to be fair, I didn't think this would start so early.

Already above freezing here. Not expecting anything here today. Maybe a little white rain and a high near 40. One thing that never rug pulls is heat. This upcoming heatwave was nailed by models weeks ago lol

Not much expectation east of the mountains for snow today.  All the models seemed to be fizzling out at 6Z and so has the latest WB 12Z 3K NAM.  Our typical rug pull at the last minute.

I feel like the snowfall color guide on the bottom changing colors.

You are not crazy, pivotal does that for some reason. Maybe because the scale adjusts slightly for each run to better fit all totals but idk

 

edit: actually it is not changing the bar length at all so I guess it’s just something with how pivotal processes the gif

Early radar hallucinations show a VIOLENT VIRGABAND setting up right over the city of DC. The band is being enhanced by a RICH MOISTURE FETCH out of Kansas

* WHERE...The Washington Metropolitan area, northern Virginia, and
  central Maryland.

* WHEN...The steadiest snow is expected between noon and 5 PM
  this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...In bands of heavier snow, road surfaces may become
  slushy or even snow covered for a brief period this afternoon.
  For this evening, any standing water or slush may freeze with
  temperatures around 30 to 32 degrees.
