snowfan
Morning ob after driving to work.....local DOTs have really forgotten how to appropriately clear roads. In many spots, you almost wonder WTF they were actually doing.
kgottwald
LWX AFD has not a word about the busted low temp forecast. The AFDs in general have gotten a lot more boring and cookie-cutter since I first started following them in 1993.

jayyy
HRRR has 1/2 to 3/4 inch todaySo does the NAM. That’s why NWS put the statement out. I expect at least some snow tv for many between dc and Baltimore today. 1/2 max somewhere seems most likely if it materializes

T. August
Kind of sucks that the airports probably won’t capitalize on the snow cover and much below normals temps to hit subzero. 1

Huge bust in temps fine with me - the commute this morning already sucked enough. Hoping we can squeeze out some accumulations these evening to make the commute even worse. 1
MN Transplant
The fundamental problem with the lows is that the airmass is potentially historic in length, but not severity. So, we are getting very cold in the favored spots, but overall it isn't just enough of a cold airmass to challenge some of the more fun numbers for many of us.

Was there a model that was better on our actual realized temps?

dailylurker
Just now, Kay said: Been wondering about this too, specifically whether models may have "misjudged" the snow/ice cover contribution (? I have no guess, question for mets) It seems like it was a problem during the cold spell last January. My forecasted highs were in the high 20's. I had drip drip and 34 every afternoon. Yesterday my forecast high was 26. When I hit 30 I figured drip drip time was coming. I'm seeing clouds coming in from our afternoon possible afternoon flizzard.

Never ceases to amaze me how strong the suns impact is.

wxdude64
MUCH warmer this morning at 14.7 degrees vs the 1.8 yesterday. Mainly because we clouded over after dark last night (along with some flurries) and the wind. Had a 41 mph gust. The 1.8 that carried into next day until about 8 am NOT a record, that still stands from 1987 at -4. Currently 22.0/8.2 with W 5 gusting to 12 mph winds under partly cloudy skies. WC 16 to 10 degrees.
