First time  I felt the need to go to the basement about an hour ago when Rocky HIll reported a tornado. Just sat on the porch for last 20 mins. The amount of rain falling is incredible.

Rain..but the wind is really impressive. Feels like a real tropical storm out. Espcially getting wind and rain together, not one or the other. Absoulty howling outside shaking the hell out the windows.

Somerset airport in Somerville, NJ unofficially reported 2.83" of rain between 7pm and 8pm, which is impressive. I'm sure there are even heavier backyard hourly totals along the I-95 corridor.

edit: actually that was July 1989 I was thinking a totally different outbreak that same year

1989 and 1998 had that in common.  Labor Day 1998 produced an F2 about 2 miles from here in Lynbrook.

If you're in Oceanside the warm front went north past you and therefore the heavy steady rain is NW of you. The lines of rain will come through tonight but won't be as steady. That being said radar is estimating over 3" in the northern half of Nassau County. The rain I've had so far has been very heavy but looks like another small dry slot coming in.

Yep, my wind switched to S and Farmingdale up to 70 now.
