March 20/21 STORM Obs/Discussion- No Banter

Recommended Posts

After some sleet accumulation and even some slush/ice accumulation on some of the side streets here, it looks like it's either rain or freezing rain right now. I'm not outside so I can't tell which. I got hopeful when the mangled flakes mixed in but no dice.

Wow.  Nice.  This is definitely shaping up to be Winchester-north event.

I know you're worried, but you should really give it some time

Looks like the mix line out west is advancing a bit further east...now at Harpers Ferry and along US 340 in Frederick County.

Thanks for this ob -- I saw 32 degrees at Gaithersburg on Mesonet and wasn't sure if that was right.  You confirmed it.

My MARC train ride home from DC this evening might be fun.  I remember the Jan 2011 event going from just rain in DC to heavy sleet by Rockville to heavy snow and about 4" on the ground by the time I got home to Germantown.

Wasn't really expecting freezing rain. Lots of people on the boards yesterday were talking about how the threat was minimal, but it looks like my main threat until this sleet line hits, which is taking its sweet time, is ice accumulation.

it’s back to dumping humongous flakes and now Finn’s sister Rey is the kitty going nuts in the window.

Radar looking juicy as heck for the next couple hours. Those waves advecting from the south should be non-stop most of the day once it gets going again. I expect a steaming pile of sleet on my lawn....in ROCKVILLE shortly
