12z NAM brings basically zero rain north of central NJ on Saturday. GFS still has some rain but doesn't seem as wet or North as previous runs. Hoping it at least holds out til night.

shouldn't be totally relying on a Mesoscale model 72 hours out the 12Z GFS is further north with the precip

Looks like ewr hit 98 but has dropped to 95

The maps haven’t updated yet to include the wildfires in Ontario that started on July 13th.

Analysis of 2026 Canada #wildfire emissions up to 9 July with the #CopernicusAtmosphere GFAS dataset shows more typical onset and magnitude following the previous three extreme years. Fires have been burning across the country from NWT to Newfoundland. @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social @ecmwf.int

Total estimated wildfire emissions from NWT are currently similar to 2023 (&2014) so far with half of the summer still to come. Although at much smaller scale in terms of emissions, fires in southern regions of Nunavut are already at the highest level for the territory in the 24-year GFAS dataset.

Agreed.  Until I see smoke drifting through my neighborhood this is not close to 2023, so far.

Same agreed! 2023 was extreme. I think NYC had a AQI of over 400 in 2023 and the sky was bright orange on June 23rd 2023. I remember painting a house outside and in the morning the sky was blue but by the noon a thick haze settled over which then I had to put a mask on because it was very hard to breathe in it and by 2pm I said screw this and went home!

I agree it's not as bad as 2023 yet but we do have snoke drifting through the air at ground level up here.

Mt Holly must have been inhaling too much wildfire smoke when writing 103 for a forecast high here. Sitting at 96. Don't think we go any higher with cloud coverage increasing. Not too hazy.

Mid 90s on the beaches now with the wind shift NW. Typical hottest readings there after the cold front passes. Elsewhere in Nassau County looks like 97-100. Downslope dandy. High IMBY looks to be 95.

Short range models have it getting worse here late this afternoon/evening. Makes sense with the cold front sagging south. And it's already very noticeable.

Yes the worse of it is approaching the NYC metro area. Thinking tomorrow will be even worse too.

I checked my weather station. The heavy smoke came in around 1:00, temp dropped from 89.6 at 1:00 to 85 by 1:30.

Some of the AQIs in MI are well into the 300s. Hopefully those mix out before getting here. NYC already over 150 though and it's likely getting worse today.
