Those velocities are making a beeline to the Upper Marlboro mesonet site. That's a wide open spot so that station will get a great sample of whatever comes through.

   The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 652
   continues.

   SUMMARY...Damaging wind threat is increasing for the greater
   Washington D.C. area.

   DISCUSSION...Rapid thunderstorm development occurred late this
   evening in the vicinity of Washington D.C. Here, warm-air advection
   thunderstorms combined with increasing convergence from an outflow
   boundary from an earlier storm. The result has been a rapid increase
   in hydrometeors aloft, which will support heavy water loaded
   downdrafts/downbursts capable of wind damage across the greater
   Washington D.C. area. At 0348Z Washington National airport measured
   a 64 mph wind gust. This threat will continue to move east over the
   next hour.

yeah - I believe it.  My location is pretty protected in NW but definitely had the stop sign by my house violently shaking there for a few minutes.

I believe it, in Alexandria a couple miles away and thought some trees might come down with the gusts in the first batch. Said to my wife, who I tried to wake up  to appreciate it , wow I bet those were at least 60.  Reminds you of what the power of even a minimal hurricane is like.
 

just Incredible light show too. Ironically the best one I had this year was visiting my sister in the Netherlands in June. I think it was the most lightning they'd ever recorded.

M49 mph wind gust Upper Marlboro mesonet site. I'm surprised it wasn't higher given the wide open nature of that location and the site's position relative to that wind core on radar. The nocturnal boundary layer has to be working overtime to mitigate gusts getting to the surface. If this were even late evening there'd be more substantial damage reports coming in.

That’s about 1-2 miles from me.  Didn’t get huge wind at my house, but what an intense light show.

This is the best cloud to cloud lightning I’ve seen in many many years on the back end. Amazing splintering right overhead. For a half hour now.

Nocturnal tstms w/ elevated CAPE often deliver big w/ LTG of all types.  The crazy "quick" flickering constantly is a telltale sign!  I think it is tied to the high CAPE in the mixed-phase layer of the storms.  Really cranks up charge separation!

Lots of rain and some really nice gusts, plus the best light show I’ve seen in ages. With a late-night bourbon in hand after being dragged to Thursday night HS football, it actually might have been worth the wait!

DPs yesterday exceeded 75 here in Garrett County which is very high for us. 2 rounds of storms, neither of which amounted to much other than 1.30" of welcome precip. Looking forward to true Chamber of Commerce weather Sunday/Monday and the subsequent calm that will once again descend on the Deep Creek Lake area post Labor Day.

FInally got my power back in Arlington about an hour ago.

Some tree debris got wedged in front of my vehicle on the street.

Some refuse carts got blown over ((don't know if the ones upright are because people fixed that before heading for work)).
