The definition is vague anyway...”frequent gusts”. I mean you had gusts over 30kt every hour, but here and there they would dip into the 20s. They should average the gusts over the hour (1min obs) and if it’s over 30kt say that hour qualifies. The vis can be cheap too. You can have 5 straight hours of 1/4SM except for one SPECI in the middle that is 1/2SM.

Canadians go with 4 hours and sustained wind of 40km h(22 kts) so it's a bit harder.

I'm surprised surge wasn't talked about here. I know everyone was preoccupied with the snow but this seemed primed for Boston Harbour. I fear that's what Halifax's waterfront is going to look like. Winds gusting to 72mph at the airport and that's well inland.

I believe that the Sultan of Surge (Ginx) mentioned the possibilities but he got taken out by the flu and a burst pipe at the museum so his posts have been limited a bit.

We all wish for these intense storms, but if you live in a coastal town this is the worst we have seen and people are in serious danger

My aunt and uncle live in Hull. Two houses from the water.  She said the road out of there is closed.  They should be ok, but ding dang...

Their house survived ‘78 with no issues, as well as 2015, but this is bad

Not liking where I am for the rest of the storm.  Substance coming in before the main band comes through to end it, BUT the band seems to be cutting off it's northern edge to the point where I won't get it when it comes here.  I'm barely holding on to the bulb band over SE Mass.  Rest of RI is screwed right now.

Over a foot. 12"+ here on the deck. but very windy.  Depths from drifting range from a low point of 12" to as high as 20".  I'm dead serious here.  I have no choice but to call it over a foot (12"+)  How do you measure such powdery snow.  Little wind goes a long way.  Don't know what I'll personally end up with but looking at the radar and future cast, I think mid tees in inches may not be out of the question.

I'm pretty confident KPVD will verify a blizzard. Visibility has been less than 0.25 miles since 9:00am this morning with wind and or gusts consistently surpassing 35 mph. There were only 3 occasions (5 minute increment observations) in which the visibility reached 0.5 miles within this timeframe.

Otherwise, snow rates are picking up again! :) I think 2-4 more inches is certainly possible for this area (Pawtucket/surrounding locations). I think that'll bring my total to ~15-18. We'll see!!!
