Different subject but Albert annoyed the hell out of me because he always said “thundershowers” in his forecasts instead of “thunderstorms” And to this day you never see or hear anyone using that

About 20 or 25 years back I went to the NE Weather Conference and one of the presenters mentioned that there is no such thing as a thundershower, just thunderstorms.  My reaction then as it is today is that is a Thundershower is a thunderstorm that you can only hear but hits the next town over.  A thunderstorm hits you.

Not scientific but it is how I differentiated them.

Yes, I do not like that term either.  "Thunderstorm" is best b/c it means w/ or w/o precip which covers it all b/c how many time do you not get a drop of rain but you get LTG/T that sends @weatherwiz and @ineedsnow bouncing off the walls!?  Or @CoastalWxgetting a jolt from his PC b/c of an isolated +CG hits very close that scares the bejesus out of him, but it is sunny out?

And when you get to desert regions, many tstms never get a drop to the ground since it is all virga, yet the LTG/T is nasty!

And when you say "thunder," that by default means convective, even when it is from CSI or embedded in a large area of synoptic precip (convective elements), so the precip is showery in nature and thus "showers" attached to thunder is redundant.

I bet @CoastalWx still uses "thunderhead" to describe a CB!   Also, "heat lightning!"  Or he may go, "why is is called a "funnel cloud" when it always does not look like a funnel!" :D

To be fair to the other guys I might be as big a “thunder weenie” as they are lol

This is the kind of validation I need more of in my life lol

Worcester couldn't even make freezing last night.

26 already 35 though.

Still air leaf fall flitting through the lateral morning sun rays... always a neat effect.

It was stunning this morning when I walked the dog. Totally still and silent other than the leaves hitting the ground

To be clear, our coastal a few weeks ago never became subtropical, but I do find this pretty funny.

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
800 PM EDT Sun Oct 18 2026

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America:

Off the East Coast of the United States:
A storm-force non-tropical low pressure area is developing along a
frontal boundary tonight off the southeast coast of the United
States. This low is likely to move slowly and erratically over the
next couple of days while it initially remains non-tropical. Later
this week, if the system stays over the Gulf Stream, environmental
conditions could become more conducive for the low to develop some
subtropical characteristics. A subtropical cyclone could form over
the second half of this week as the system begins moving generally
northeastward, offshore of the eastern United States. Regardless of
development, this system will cause high winds, coastal flooding,
and dangerous surf along portions of the U.S. East Coast. Please
consult statements and warnings from local National Weather Service
offices and the Weather Prediction Center for more information,
along with High Seas Forecasts and Storm Warnings issued by the
National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...40 percent.

&&
High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service
can be found under AWIPS header NFDHSFAT1, WMO header FZNT01
KWBC, and online at ocean.weather.gov/shtml/NFDHSFAT1.php

Good morning kdxken. The accu weather forecast for Centrak Park for those days, other than for temperature, is not that far off …. Except ….  For the 29th and 39th. The prediction is for 2.49 inches of rain between those two days. Possibly a nor’easter? I’m sure it will change I just found it interesting, even 10 days out. Stay well, as always …..
