like those roads never flooded before - maybe they should spend some of our tax $$ upgrading whats causing the drainage issues............

No disagreement about upgrades/debris clean up, but where I was the rate was considerable. That part of Monmouth County is also rather low lying, not more than 20 miles from the Atlantic as the crow flies.

4.28 inches so far since midnight at my station

Amazing. It's been lightly drizzingly here most of the day on the UWS with some moderate pockets sprinkled in. Looks like we are at .91 inches for the event as of 11 AM at CPK.

Big gradient between north and south shore. wonder what happens when those heavy echoes punch north into that rain shield...could be prolific flooding

I’m in brightwaters, and it’s absolutely pouring

Multiple crews are responding to a roof collapse at a BJ’s Wholesale Club in Ocean Township.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office said first responders are on scene at the store on Route 35 in the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township. Officials are asking people to stay clear of the area so emergency crews can respond safely. The collapse happened around 11:30 a.m. Multiple mutual aid crews from surrounding towns were also called to the scene.

Law enforcement officials told News 12 that there were no injuries reported. Police said all 27 staff members who were in the building at the time are accounted for and safe. All of the customers who were in BJ's at the time of the collapse are also safe, police said.

According to Ocean Township Police Chief Michael Sorrentino and Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden, approximately 20% of the rear of the building has collapsed. Officials believe the damage was caused by the weight of the water from the heavy rain that fell.

Authorities are also urging drivers to avoid Route 35 because of severe flooding in the area.

This remains a developing story.

Governor Sherrill....Bueller, Bueller.

First the power outages and now flooding.  Crickets.  Could probably use a State of Emergency in a few counties about now.

As of 1:30 pm, Bridgeport, Islip, and JFK Airport had set daily rainfall records for July 6. Parts of Brooklyn, Nassau County, and Orange County were reporting flash flooding. Otisville in Orange County had received 7.78" of rain.

Brooklyn, Bridgeport, Islip, New Haven, JFK Airport, and Staten Island will likely see more additional rainfall than either Central Park or LaGuardia Airport through the remainder of the event. Parts of central New Jersey, the Connecticut shore and Long Island could see the highest additional rainfall amounts with additional flooding likely.

Flash Flood Warning for Southwest Suffolk now. Reports of flooding on MPING.

2.34" here but the heaviest rain having trouble making it north of the LIE. South shore has a long way to go

There’s some serious flooding in the Babylon, West Islip, and Bay Shore area. I’m in Brightwaters, where there are several underground streams. Basement flooding is going to be a major issue for the area
