Thinking of adopting another one? I didn't want to after I lost mine last year but my wife found one and I love her and so happy she's around.

Pet loss can be more difficult than a human family member. My sister just lost her Frenchie out in San Fran during the heat wave. They live on the third floor with no AC, never needed it in the past, 99% of the time the temps are comfortable. Dog passed away from heat stroke, only 3. Goldens unfortunately don’t have the best life span due to overbreeding. But man, what a great dog to have.

Yes we 1000% will be, but probably not until later in the summer. 

My girlfriend will begin bar prep in about a month and is taking the exam the end of July and I will be doing two classes over the summer ( I debated taking the summer off but if I do two classes fall/spring/summer I will have my masters end of summer 2027) and they are only 10 week courses so we both are going to be super swamped. 

We both absolutely want to though. She adopted the dog when she lived in Florida, found him at the shelter when he was only 6 months old and she said he was badly abused. The first time I met my girlfriend and came to her house the dog and I got along right away. This dog was absolutely the most best, loving, sweet, and caring dog ever and he had such an amazing life and we want to provide that option to another dog too. 

We still have a cat so we're not totally pet-less.

I have a 9yo golden, turning 10 in April. Starting to groan a lot and getting arthritic. It sucks

Yeah my lab is 11 and I know that day is coming.  Anything past 12 years old is borrowed time.

We lost our black Lab of 13 years on Oct 29, 2016, and with us past normal retirement age led to pondering whether to get another dog.  We decided to wait until spring before making a decision.  "Spring" came on Feb 4  a yellow Lab mix thru Maine Lab Rescue.  Scrawny 32-lb 17-month-old fixed female from TX.  (She's now in the 50s and not fat.)  Might've never seen snow, and her first 2 weeks here included 5 storms totaling 45", then the Pi-day blizzard really spooked her.

Now 10 yr old, turns 11 in July, still spry but achy when I do a reasonably long bushwhack on our woodlot, as she has to sniff everything - if I walk a mile, she does 3 or 4.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't make it until the end of summer lol. The plan is my girlfriend is going to go to the shelter and pick out a dog. I can't go and do it because I told her if we encountered pups that were a part of a family there is absolutely zero way I could just take the one, I would have to take the whole family. 

What I should say though is, the dog will pick her. That is how she ended up with the dog. She went to the animal shelter when she was living in Florida and went into a cage...all of the dogs ran and hid into the corner and only one went up to her and she figured that was the one. The dog had just been dropped off at the shelter a day or two before. Talk about fait.

When we lost Wilbur (my profile pic) we waited almost 2 years before we got another dog.  We wanted and enjoyed the freedom that came along with not having to be home by a certain time to let one out and being able to go somewhere at the drop of a hat.  But then we got Bella the beagle and I don't miss that freedom at all.  She has been a great addition to the household and we are so happy to have her.

She got to live through 2008-09 (puppyhood to adolescence), 2010-11 (climbing up to dump on the snowbanks on the side of the road), 2012-13 (lots of pics for the feb and March buggies), 2013-14 (cold and sometimes snowy fun), 2014-15 (the $900 UTI), many more up to 2022.  All dogs are snow dogs.

My issue with getting another dog is what if he/she lives 12-15 years?   Good chance I won’t.  And if I do will I be able to care for the dog in my 90s?
