Tom (great sledding hill) on the Gardiner estate. The castle would be just to the left of the pic.

weathafella
I'm savoring this one-a throwback to my youth. The deep winter cold laying down the foundation with perfect timing. The classic cirrus gathering in the SW sky, the excitement of a big snow on the way. I grew up in the 1950s and early 60s. The 1950s were not so kind to snow lovers until the latter half of the decade. But my early years taught me to appreciate every aspect of the storm including the prodromal high paint brush cirrus. When i was 9 years old, I read a book entitled "All About the Weather" by ivan Ray Tannehill. He described a gathering storm similar to what we're hopefully about to experience. I'm quoting but entirely from memory: "It may be a clear cold day in winter whn you notice wispy high clouds in the sky to the west." I remember the line-"the wind whistles in the pines and roars in the eaves". Some of you older posters wil probably remember the same experience as me reading and validating what I was feeling......excitement...it was going to snow! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Ray_Tannehill

DomNH
Can't recall too many events where guidance kept increasing QPF right up to go time. 1.5'' of liquid through this airmass with big UVVs is going to be a lot of snow.
