NorthHillsWx
Unfortunately it is coming in at peak strength and with some forward speed meaning that eastern side will maximize wind gusts. Dire situation in Jamaica. Coming in daylight, maybe Josh can get the stadium captured. This is going to be one of the strongest hurricane landfalls in history. Trying to approximate this while considering that the forward motion is also slowly increasing as well. It is moving now... I think it makes landfall before noon. If I ever had that chance I would have my drone for the eye to punch above any low clouds to get the stadium.
AdamHLG
Any other good cam links near landfall besides this one (and which of the cams on this link is closest to landfall)? https://laurentviewer.netlify.app

NeonPeon
What has always fascinated me about hurricanes is the combination of unbelievable strength and fragility. This one was sure to be devastating when land falling but on several occasions I thought it was definitely going to at least temporarily weaken slightly and instead several times it has actually just deepened. The long loop of this hurricane is a meandering buzzsaw.

cptcatz
The 1935 Labor Day Hurricane was the only Atlantic hurricane to make landfall below 900 mb, which hit at 892. This can very well be the strongest ever to make landfall.

str8liner
Wow, is that the most perfectly symmetrical hurricane ever? Been following these for years and don't recall any that perfect. The way it meandered around in the same area, never weakened, and continued to strengthen is amazing. Takes perfect conditions for that to happen.
Windspeed
we have seen many time sin the past decade where hurricanes did not weaken on approach to land harvey and michael for example..Jamaica doesn't really have much of a shallow shelf. Heat content is high at depth not far from the shore. A positive is that this mitigates surge to the harbors and bays. Still probably looking at 13 to 15 ft somewhere where the SE eyewall comes ashore.
CoastalWx
2 minutes ago, Cold Miser said: Can someone please explain what that graphic is showing? Thanks. That image is showing the aircraft flying and taking measurements. The pressure is extrapolated to the surface from that flight level at that exact location, so not directly measured. But still 893mb is extremely deep and rare.

HKY_WX
I'm sure Josh or another chaser has a handheld barometer onsite. If so, we could have ground truth of the strongest or 2nd strongest landfall ever in the Atlantic basin. At least in recorded history.

Windspeed
Recon continues to circle around inside the eye. They may be filming and taking additional dropsonde data. This is getting into historical territory, considering it's going to landfall at this intensity.
