I’m at OCMD today and it seems ok on RadarScope?

Its fine on COD.

It is often broken for one reason or another, but not now. NWS radar is garbage, so if you are using that I am not surprised if it doesn't work right lol

I’m at Broadkill Beach and also on RadarScope. There have been a few downpours here today that weren’t on radar. Not a big deal. They must have just been very localized.

That 10 foot rise on Sligo Creek is impressive/scary

That was from one of our county flood sensors near Sligo Creek Pkwy & New Hampshire Ave (MD 650). I've never seen water levels rise that quickly at that location.

10 feet rise in Rock Creek park is very scary. The don’t close the inbound roads like Broad Branch (live next to Broad Branch tributary). Nonstop alerts here in DC. I hope everyone is safe in the park.

This was the worst flash flood event I have ever worked in my entire career. Had this persisted for just another 20 to 30 minutes, we would've had real problems in Montgomery County. The flood sensors we installed, combined with the Layhill and College Park mesonet sites raised alarm bells quickly, which resulted in us getting roads closed and water rescue assets staffed quickly. It was one of the few times in my career that I actually felt helpless as things went sideways.

Impressive indeed,  but am i reading/understanding that graph wrong ?  Too much work must be  frying my brain - Or too much alcohol after work , Is College Park semi arid...? Is this a new recording station ? 1976 to 2025 ?

Wild pics from takoma park and silver spring.  Sligo parkway was part of the creek today.

Just went gangbusters. That is one of the most vulnerable watersheds in Montgomery County. Terrain, loose soils and urbanization are tremendous stressors on that waterway.

And if not for the foresight of installing those sensors in vulnerable areas, you guys may not have been able to respond as quickly as you did. Infrastructure matters.

Yes, it’s a fairly new station.

Mount Holly states there will be some mixing today during the afternoon hours, so dew points may not reach extreme levels at that time. Presently my DP is  76, very steamy !  Also, seeing some storms form in North central Maryland moving East.

Worse area appears to be the Delmarva region where it almost reaches heat advisory levels.

Increasing southwest flow will
usher a warmer and more humid airmass into the region. Highs
today will top off in the upper 80s to around 90. Surface dew
points will generally be in the low to mid 70s, but afternoon
mixing should keep dew points from getting into the upper 70s.
Will blend the CONSALL and NBM guidance for dew points today,
and that will keep dew points from getting as high as the NBM.
Max heat index values will be in the mid to upper 90s, and near
100 in Delmarva, which will be just below Heat Advisory
criteria.

Really? There's a shower about 70 miles to your NW. That might be what you see. The furthest storm I've seen is about 120 miles. OC to Frederick is far.

I don’t see anything else on radar? It is really far. But that’s the right direction.

Their was a dieing heavy shower about 70 miles to your NW. It could be the Carroll County stuff. I was in Easton a few years ago. I could see the anvil from a storm in Central PA. I find that kinds stuff interesting.

I'm looking forward to this break in humidity coming up but am smh at how we just went through two weeks of super high precipitable water with only a half inch of rain to show for it.  I just watered the garden and damn the ground is rock hard.  Last real rain was July 1-2, and 0.5 since then.  Now things are really going to get ugly with almost no chance of rain for weeks.

Thanks for the hard work with installing those sensors and being a voice to issue the emergency warning!
