0.02 today for a three day total of flood watches of 0.03... Never seen that before..

Not that we need rain - got slammed Sunday - monthly total approaching 4.50...

Remain torn on these daily flood watches , there is no doubt that where these storms in this moist atmosphere set up-fast and significant flash flooding can occur.. We haven't reached the technical ability yet to pinpoint exactly where that will be - like identical supercells out in the plains - one might produce a significant tornado but the other dosent... However there is no doubt that any tornado watch out west will be taken much more seriously than a flood watch around here..

However to the average person - non weather fanatic who knows nothing about the details ,  daily flood watches showing up on phone weather apps without a large synoptic or tropical system that's all over the news or social media kind of creates a yeah ok whatever attitude......

You're  exactly right and I agree with you 100%.   You were lucky to be slammed Sunday.  I received .10".  The last 4 Watches have given me a total of .15".

That's fine because I take all watches with a grain of salt even though I still fire them on my newsletter.   I'm not foolish enough to trust the government to protect me from a flood or other harm in life.  People who play that game often wind up disappointed or worse.

The NWS only gives me a 30% pop today so my chances are probably better late this afternoon or evening of finally getting a decent rain.

The Watches will likely return tomorrow.

tons of trees down (some from lightning strikes) and power lines yesterday in town.

a senior housing building not too far from me lost its roof:  https://wvmetronews.com/2025/07/17/heavy-storms-rip-through-eastern-panhandle-residents-evacuated-from-charles-town-apartment-building/

my house was right on the edge of where the worst damage was and I'm glad it missed me.

Wow, your just over the hill and a short distance from me. All I received was heavy rain (1.45") and very little wind

I noticed the wind picking up after @WVclimo had said he'd seen very little wind. i think a lot of the damage was from lightning strikes on trees.

there was a lightning strike on a substation very close to the apartment building which lost its roof. I wonder if NWS will send a team to investigate what happened in that part of the city--there was also a very large tree down a block or 2 from the apartment building.

I sure am glad that wasn't me. I noticed since moving here 5 years ago that Charles Town seems to get the worst of the severe weather in the general area. That lightning show yesterday was intense and the thunder was nearly continues. Glad you escaped the worst of it.
