Brown grass is pretty usual in September and October if all the tropical cyclones miss us, but I don't ever remember seeing it in May. It must have happened in May 1969, which had only four days with measurable rain, but I was a toddler at the time.

I'm not seeing much brown grass here...or maybe I haven't looked hard enough.  Quite a bit of green in Frederick.  It doesn't seem like we've had more rain than other areas, but I do think we've been nickel and dime'd just enough to stave off that Great Plains look for now.

Yep, in my area it's been a half or quarter inch or so every week to ten days. Building up a deficit, but enough to keep things green. I can tell its dry because my grass (and grass in local parks) isn't as thick and lush as it usually is. As sun angle season builds, if we don't get more moisture (like at least 4" by the end of the month) it's gonna start to bake and burn out

Yeah, it had been looking especially good for a Thursday overrunning event, but that now looks like it will be further south

From LWX disco:  "Possibility of someone being south of heavier axis Wed and north of axis on [Thu] resulting in local min in QPF."

Beautiful evening though!

My grass is fairly lush right now despite the dry and hard ground.  The moderate temps are helping slow the moisture loss, but once it heats up it’ll be toast like normal.

Will it heat up?  lol.  Feels like the new normal isn't warm, it's windy and dry.  Tomorrow looks nice, though.

Most all is green in my area of Frederick. Oddly enough have a few trees that are struggling to leaf out from bud stage on the tree line behind my house. Where I noticed the lack of rain is when mulching my front beds yesterday with my perennials the dirt is dry and compact.

Looking back my station logged 2.52” for the month of April. On the 1st 0.38”, 5th 0.73”, 19th 0.47”, 25th 0.22” and on the 29th 0.59”.

Glorious day today though. Out on the deck eating lunch. Wind is a bit wild though and thinking the table umbrella needs to come down. Stalking DC weather for Saturday as the older Ms. J is graduating from college. Graduation is indoors but would be nice for a bit of sun. She is in the 9 am graduation slot.

Talked to a nursery about the lack of leaves on the top half of my Crepe Myrtle.  The frost/freeze in late April killed a lot of new buds.  May bloom late or not at all until next year. Have to keep it watered and fertilized like a new plant to keep it alive.

Everything here is dying already, you name it,  bushes, all the landscape plants bloomed and then the buds froze. Pretty shitty. Fig tree not good - between no soil moisture and up and down temps, freezes and frost have taken its toll.

Nice day but the wind is blowing the pollen everywhere. I’m miserable.

80 here and windy, dry AF and Oak tree sperm flying all over the  place. Those pollen strings are plied up on the roof. I keep the deck blown off. It's lessening compared to last week, but damn do we need some rain.

Drinking a Margarita and trying to motivate myself to go out and water the poor plants.

I cut the grass today and though my yard holds water well and generally looks good into late June, it’s already beginning to show stress this year. I’ll be heading up to the hardware store for a sprinkler after I shower off the pollen.

Then, definitely an evening cocktail in the backyard. Maybe one of those 120’s I bought.

Yeah. The wind is kind of annoying. Especially trying to bike in it and it is directly in your face makes you feel like you're biking uphill. The pollen is ridiculous. Makes tennis practice impossible as well, blowing the tennis balls everywhere.

I have to say if anything these past few years has shown me is, if it is labeled drought tolerant it will go into my yard. My front garden of sedums, day lilies and catmint are exploding in full bloom. And my Knock out Rose Bush is covered with buds. Have some Black Eyed Susans coming up in my container. I put them in there so they don’t over spread.
