Deep winter weekend, no way to argue that, but the extreme temp forecasts definitely underperformed.

The GFS has outperformed the Euro on temps for the globals, and the NAM has been much better than the HRRR.

One thing that I noticed that was not surprising was that the AI models did not handle the wind gusts well.  They were too muted, as is to be expected with more extreme events.

feels like they do well at a lower resolution (getting the big picture right), but at a higher resolution (getting the details), they are quite poor.

Dipped to 1.3 before starting to rise. The melt this week should bring quite the mud pit

Getting our early for one last mud and slop free hike before our normal winter returns this week lol. It's been a fantastic winter. Three in a row in the lowlands. I just need a few inches of slop and I'll be at climo again this year.

Temp 9

Very cold low of -12.3 this morning. Second coldest low so far this season (few weeks ago it was -16.8).

I find this typical of the backside of an arctic air mass, good radiational cooling and the winds finally decouple.  My place was -8.5 this AM, but already rebounded to 27.  We hovered around zero the previous couple nights with a lot more wind.

I'm ready for the next ice age lol.

Looks like the warm front is coming. Clouds are showing up after a spectacular blue bird morning.

Today actually was pretty tolerable. I can sense a warmup is incoming. Can’t wait for these faux snow mountains to melt. But I’m game for a real snowstorm…though it’s not looking good, that’s for sure.
