Funny enough, 3k NAM from last night was too warm for a lot of the area on this AM’s temps. Split the difference and it could be a pretty accurate forecast. -2° up by psu/mappy over to Leesburg and 2-3° towards 95.
87storms
First time I’ve left my place since Saturday due to a cold and busy work schedule combo. Looks more like it snowed than sleet..so that’s fun. Roads are in pretty decent shape. And when the sun is out it’s still cold af, but a lot more tolerable.

clskinsfan
This cold is just unrelenting. 17.6 degrees here with winds at 8 and gusts to 20. It is simply brutal out.
ThePhotoGuy
23.9 for the high. Kinda surprised at the lack of ice coverage on the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay along the western shore.

CAPE
Forecast low tonight is 4 here. I'll take the under after hitting 2 this morning when the forecast low was 7. Might make a run at 0 if the wind completely dies down.

Sorry if my post was confusing. However! I have seen a fox or two explore out on the river ice in the past as well. Rarely. It could be they were going after the smell of fish remains or something from eagles, for food (?) but this would usually be when there is some melting, even a little. This reminds me to watch out there though!

Way more wind after the sun sets last week or so, finally dies about an hour or two before sun rise.

Cold airmass in place, with a glacier otg and clear skies, and the antithesis of UHI around here.. temps should tank.

I’ve been quite glad the kid hasn’t had to wait for a bus this week as I usually stand on the front porch until it arrives. Not fun when it’s single digits and dark lol
katabatic
Another really cold day, high was only 10.2. Received another 1.2" from light snow that fell most of the day. Currently 6 outside with fairly light winds. If we decouple, temps will tank - been waiting for that to happen to record a double digit below zero night. See if that happens anytime soon.

Amped
After 6 straight days of sub 25 temps there are now lakes you can play ice hockey on. How long before someone tries to walk across the potomac?

How long before someone tries to walk across the potomac? Rivers are always more risky just b/c of how currents impact freeze up. Some of the tidal areas could be walkable in a matter of days, as well as any fast ice on shores of Chesapeake. Walking on some part of the bay is on my bucket list so I will be reporting on that when it's at least conceivably safe lol
