Then you read wrong. Its not one or the other, but possibly a compromise. See the Euro AI/GFS AI/GEFS. I wouldn't put my eggs in either the GFS OP or Euro OP runs at 12z.

Regarding northeast — it’s the first time all season we are below last year’s snow coverage and by a lot.
