Staying with the wife out near Luray for the homesteaders conference in Front Royal. Rented a mountaintop cabin with a crazy good view. Freeze warning last night but didn't really get close. 37 when I woke up around sunrise. Sunrise and sunset view of the Blue Ridge from the deck today. Fall colors are just getting started. Some nice patches of maples but green is still dominant.

Nice pictures.  You might be out by my family's large farm out there if you are near Luray

Is it me or is the fall color late and daul this year? There's not much difference in color from here in the lowlands and the local Blue Ridge mountains. The tulip trees never got any color here nor there. The leaves just kinda fell off without turning yellow. The trees on top of South Mountain were just kinda brownish yellow. No color at all yet in the valley. Just half bare trees and green. I'm sure it has to do with the ongoing drought out there. The fall color was super disappointing this year out there.

Up at the cabin at 3k ft we hardly had any color.  Leaves just turned brown and fell off.  Drought I guess.  Down here in the lowlands we haven't really had any change yet except the tops of my tallest sweetgum trees.  Our tulip trees are still green here with just a few leaves turning yellow here and there.

Hopefully we get better color here. Very disappointing to the west. It does seem a little slower this year as well.

No rain at all today back here in the lowlands. Roads are dry and it's cloudy and breezy.

Edit: Some heavy drizzle and light rain are blowing in from the NE.
