@powderfreak has experience. What’s the estimate on this?

IMG_3440.jpeg

2.75”?…. IIRC it’s 1” additional for each tenth of the inner tube.  Hard to see exactly where it crosses the inner tube markings.

It has an 11” capacity so it checks out.  1” inner tube then another 1” for each number it passes in the outer tube.

Another nice day. Topped out around 70 with light winds.

I think this has been our best May in a while. So comfortable.

you are the single most disingenuous poster here. You were around 70 for what, an hour or 2 this afternoon? There was nothing nice about today. I hit 68 for an hour or 2, otherwise it hasn’t stopped raining. Up to 1.5”

Mostly dry day here, everything's dried out from the earlier sprinkles/light showers

spent some time at an outdoor wedding in your neck of the woods, near the NBill T stop. It was chilly and windy, but not a lot of rain fortunately. After 3 hours of the damp cool air, I was frickin freezing.

It's been 60's all day, not really mild but seasonably cool. Nice dew though

Yeah I knew it was 11”. So 10” remaining in the 12” outer cylinder. I have 2” in the outer so I have 1/6 of 10” plus the 1” inner. So 2.6”ish

Ahh good call, I always forget the outer cylinder is higher than the inner one, duh.   Even staring at it.  I was approaching it as they were the same height.

Yeah I don’t feel like figuring out the exact geometry. The inner cylinder takes up space and is shorter. The cone dips into the outer cylinder.

I like your estimate better. Quick and easy.

Haha yeah I’ve always just used that as a quick and dirty eyeball method when the inner is full.  But I knew it wasn’t exactly right.  Can’t believe I never put it together the outer one is obviously taller, as that’s where the cone goes lol.

Counted 132 tips in this once I cleared the hole. Not sure how much I lost in between tips. I should probably install the bird spikes.

That hasn’t stopped birds from dropping bagels in mine several times. I’m constantly undercounting.

Speaking of…I’m at .86 and counting here. Nearby stations well over an inch today.

Models have a stormy/ wet Saturday next weekend

Yup, every global has some mischief around for Fri/Sat, even if they aren't in 100% agreement with each other.  A front sweeping east and some sort of low off Hatteras moving up the coast...

2.67” final

Over 10” on the month

Nice jackpot.  Looks like 1.25” here in town.  The ski area had 2” and it looked like some west slope spots had 2.5”.

Was mostly a long duration synoptic rainfall here without true convective rates.  The rainfall seemed efficient though, even lacking convection.

Maybe you've already done this . . .
I wiggle the inner tube until it's right at 1.00" then dump it.  Next is placing the funnel onto the inner tube and pour some of the outer tube contents - if there's more than 1" one must remember (or record) partial fills of the inner (I try to stop the pour in the 0.8-0.9" range) remember/record/dump then repeat until the outer tube is empty.  Can be 'interesting' if there's several inches in the 4" tube and it's still pouring.  In that case I take out a small pail, dump both tubes into it and head inside with the inner tube to measure in peace.
