IIRC it’s 1” additional for each tenth of the inner tube. Hard to see exactly where it crosses the inner tube markings. It has an 11” capacity so it checks out. 1” inner tube then another 1” for each number it passes in the outer tube.

I think this has been our best May in a while. So comfortable. you are the single most disingenuous poster here. You were around 70 for what, an hour or 2 this afternoon? There was nothing nice about today. I hit 68 for an hour or 2, otherwise it hasn’t stopped raining. Yeah I knew it was 11”. So 10” remaining in the 12” outer cylinder. I have 2” in the outer so I have 1/6 of 10” plus the 1” inner. So 2.6”ish

I like your estimate better. Quick and easy.

Haha yeah I’ve always just used that as a quick and dirty eyeball method when the inner is full. But I knew it wasn’t exactly right. Can’t believe I never put it together the outer one is obviously taller, as that’s where the cone goes lol.

The ski area had 2” and it looked like some west slope spots had 2.5”. Was mostly a long duration synoptic rainfall here without true convective rates. The rainfall seemed efficient though, even lacking convection.

I have 2” in the outer so I have 1/6 of 10” plus the 1” inner. So 2.6”ish Maybe you've already done this . . . I wiggle the inner tube until it's right at 1.00" then dump it. Next is placing the funnel onto the inner tube and pour some of the outer tube contents - if there's more than 1" one must remember (or record) partial fills of the inner (I try to stop the pour in the 0.8-0.9" range) remember/record/dump then repeat until the outer tube is empty. Can be 'interesting' if there's several inches in the 4" tube and it's still pouring. In that case I take out a small pail, dump both tubes into it and head inside with the inner tube to measure in peace.
