It was a Flop... February 2024 Disco. Thread

Recommended Posts

Well, look ....  both storms happened. Not sure what to say. The threads were not ultimately wrong.

Unfortunately, there's no way to tell someone in Rutland VT versus Rye NH vs Hartford CT ...who is going to eat cake and who is going to eat shit, with any sort of assurance.

I was planning on starting a thread for it - but if y'all really feel some voodoo like it matters who does.

In my defense, I have seen more threads started that had NO storm result comparatively - just sayn

Glad we had cake this week rather than gagging on the alternative to the brink of unconsciousness.

There was a storm in 1966 I think, it's in the KU book, that had a somewhat similar distribution.

It might be the famous blizzard of 66. I experienced it in upstate NY.  Oswego with 100”.  My campus got “only” 38.

The storm is not the 24th. By the way, it’s the 23rd may be coming in night of the 22nd in some areas.

Are you looking at models, or just a hunch by you? I would think you want the slower and stronger evolution like the Euro, the gfs is a mess with several s/ws and overall meh

That's it!! Is that the biggest snow you ever witnessed?

Well I witnessed 40+ in the sierras so no but it fell on top of a deep pack which was fortified by 2-3” seemingly daily for weeks before the event.  When winters were great….

Yeah you saw one of the best if not the GOAT in 1966 for that area. Pack that deep is rare in Ithaca. The nickel and dime events though were not.

I was a freshman that year-just turned 19 just before the mayhem.  I just assumed that was winter in the area.  Snow in the air the first week of October, solid event around 11/5.  Way below zero many nights.  Epic period!

Deep winter this week. In a ratter you learn to appreciate the Ginx look  when you get it .

Yup…nothing like this last year. This year ain’t good by any means…but it beats last year by quite a bit already, due to a 12.5” snowfall on Tuesday, with cold temps to follow, and solid snow on the ground still.

Last years biggest snow was barely 6”, and it didn’t last at all.  Gotta take what is given, but way better than last year, with a few more chances to even further distance ourselves from last year.

Probably won’t make normal, but last year was much worse here. I know for Scoots and folks out east/SE, it ain’t better, so I get it.  But much better here…relatively speaking.

I was 9 that year. We lived in Marcellus just outside of Syracuse. Our house was up on a hill outside of town and it took a few days before the plows showed up. When they finally got to our road there were guys with snow shoes poking r-bar into the snow ahead of the plows looking for cars.
My father had to get a neighbor with a backhoe to dig out the drifts in our driveway. I was too young to think it wasn’t just normal winter.
