Being a few miles east of JFK and using the radar for confirmation, I can state that it was snowing pretty steadily from 8 PM last night to around 7 AM this morning.

There were good echos over SW Nassau for a while yesterday night. I wonder if Long Beach actually did fairly well.

you dont "sound" too happy about it lol.

Looks like you were the Long Island jackpot- congrats! ;-)

Lol I’m fine as long as it quickly melts, but it was unexpected (for me), things didn’t look too promising last night.

It's very photogenic but looks like it's melting pretty quick, better take pics quick or it'll be gone before noon!

The birds are having a field day too, I think they're playing in it and eating (drinking) it?

The ground is still warm so it’s probably melting from underneath.

I heard tourists in Central Park got lost during the intense thundersnow band that came through at 6pm.. Help was sent for them but then that late night band pivoted down from Albany and it was too intense to search in.. Unfortunately many suffered frostbite. If only they listened to your 50 posts on this storm, they would've known NYC was going to be buried.

Thanks!  Do they have METARs for Central Park too or is that only for airports?

In case it's just for airports, do you have one for Islip too? Their last measurement was also at 1 am.

Yes, NYC's observations are also available in METAR form. The 931 groups are usually only done for the 3 major airports: JFK, EWR and LGA, and even that isn't consistent. ISP did not report a 931 group at 12Z.

I'm on a SAR team.  Surprised we didn't get called out for that.:snowing:

1.5" in Smithtown.  It snowed for a long time but mostly quite light.

About an inch and half here.   Big bust all around-models really failed on this one.   Oh well, take what we can get, the season is young.

I think Bridgeport beat Fairfield for the first time with 2.0 on both sides of the storm.

2 overnight and .5 for the first part for 2.5 in Easton.

Was your 1.5 just for last night or entire storm.

1.5" seems to be quite widespread with this storm along the coast, with a high of 3.5" in some spots.  For so much banding this storm was quite uniform for us.

They always hate on Queens lol.

Do you know when they calculated the NESIS value of the Jan 2016 blizzard they ignored JFK's 31" total from that storm even though that total was confirmed on re-analysis?  That storm would have pulled ahead of March 1960's NESIS value had JFK's measurement been taken into account.

UHI Capitol of the world? As always .....

there was a  5 mile wide radar bubble with JFK its center for three hours yesterday where it was raining while it was snowing in every other direction, this happened from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.  At least it snowed here for a few hours longer than it did in the city to make up for it so the totals evened out (although you can't tell by that map because the last measurements were taken at 1 am while it was still snowing here until 7 am or so.)

Took off out of JFK earlier

Ironically, JFK ended up with more snow on the ground than most of Queens.

Once the sun set, the southern parts of BK and Queens must have has some stronger precip.

There is a line that extends about a mile inland where open areas are white...beyond that, not very white

Remember there are different parts of the city. It snowed by me on the far uws the whole day other then a couple periods of drizzle. From some reason the LGA area into central queens had a stronger heat island the all but maybe midtown

I think that might have been an early season thing, I saw that there were areas of rain on the north shore early in the evening (like around 8 PM) while it was snowing to beat the band down here.

I wrote a post about the timing of the change to snow, tell me if you think this is fairly accurate- where does the UWS fit in here?:

9 AM Staten Island. 10 AM North Shore (Huntington/Oyster Bay) 11 AM Central Park 12 PM Brooklyn 1 PM Queens 1:30-2:30 PM Western Long Island

Indeed.  It snowed quite steadily here from 8 PM to 7 AM.  We already had like a quarter of an inch on the ground before that which fell between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
