It has been pretty boring overall storm wise since the blizzard back in January. We just need any tropical or subtropical developments to come far enough north to put us closer to the jackpot region. Just amazing rainfall totals to our south this summer so far with the twin 1000 rain events in Maryland and Louisiana. Plus the 20"+ Hermine rainfall near Tampa and the nearly 20" maxes with Julia remnants over the MA.

Hopefully once this dry/boring streak breaks it will set us up for an active rest or the fall and into the winter months. I would keep an eye on mid to late next week for a possible significant rain event, the GFS has been showing that on some of its more recent runs but has been fluctuating with rainfall amounts and timing which is to be expected. Keith O
We need a major system to impact anywhere from the NE Pacific through the Eastern US to reshuffle the pattern. GFS continues to show a very significant tropical system threatening the Gulf Coast about 14 days from now, this would have the potential to be such a pattern changer if the GFS fantasy pans out. CIK62
Hurricane Mathew (yet to form, say by Wed it is a depression/TS.)may enter the GOM by Oct. 5-6 and give us leftover heavy precip. near Oct. 08. Other GFS runs have it OTS at our latitude, by the same Oct 5-6 period.
uncle W
nao is forecast to drop to a very low level but the ao is forecast to rise to a very high level...I'd rather see the ao drop but it's still to early to worry about a positive ao for December... MJO812
Hurricane slams into western coast of Florida and then it would ride up the coast on the GFS. Gets absorbed by the trough. Still ways out.

Yeah, may be getting ready for the fall migration. https://www.weather.gov/mkx/using-radar Bird Roost Rings. These are most common in the fall around bodies of water that typically have temperatures warmer than the surrounding land at night. It is also the time birds are gathering for the seasonal migration. At night, birds rest/nest in and around the lakes. Just before sunrise, there is often a coordinated lift off and dispersion of the birds out into the surrounding fields for feeding during the day. LongBeachSurfFreak
Starting to see allot of dead and dying mature trees in my neighborhood. the worst spot is right on the Nassau Suffolk border on the SS parkway. Whole stretches of dead and dying fully mature hard wood forest trees like oaks and red maples. This drought is going to cause more tree damage in the area then sandy!!! There are all sorts of mature trees dying around here this year and it's not due to drought. Some started the year ok but many just didn't even leaf out. If it was one or two species it would be easier to figure out a reason but it's a broad spectrum.

This is along the wantagh parkway between the southern state and sunrise highway. Big oaks brown and sick looking. this area had a lot of gypsy months in the spring as well. So not sure how much that plays into the issue.
